40 sedan bridge forum

Hello all, thanks all the hours of interesting reading along with the vast amounts of knowledge from this forum!
I recently purchased a 1997 400 DB!
Gas, fresh water entire life, one owner, 450 hours!
I know you guys will chastise me, I bought it without a survey.....

It's your money, not sure why anyone should care how you spend it.

Best of luck with it.

Congrats! Now we will need lots of pictures of upgrades and such.

Any 400 DB owners have a 4' radar array on their boat? If so, can you share some pics? My old (original) radar is starting to crap out and a guy at my marina is selling a Raymarine with a 4' open array. I'm interested, but worried that it will look a little too big and awkward on this boat. So, pics would help. Thanks.
Here you go John. Ray asked me to post this.

Can anyone confirm that the table base and handrail base are secured with screws, not bolts? I’m about to put down new flooring and want to back these fixtures out about 3/8” to get the flooring under the hardware.

Thanks for any advice,
Bryan

Yep, screws.. I went under my table base, and around my handrail base to keep the handrail straight and not raised with the new floor height. I left the base on the table pedestal With screws removed and marked on both the pedestal and base with an alignment mark as to verify it hadn’t rotated. Lifted it slightly, and slid my new floor underneath. I then drilled new holes through the new flooring right back into the original holes in the sole.

Welcome to the gasser club Eric. Yeah, diesels would be cool, but I’m an inland lake boater and don’t need them, want to smell them, or want to fix them. If I lived on the coast like most of these guys do, it would be a different story. I cruise at 3200 rpm most of the time and am averaging about 22 gph burn with some slower and some faster runs. Yes of course better gas mileage would be great... I did not do a survey either. I did pull the boat and with the help of the yard that did so, sound the hull for delamination, the stringers, and check for blisters. I didn’t have a one. The last bottom job was 9 years ago, and I still have a few left on it. Mine was rarely used.. I had 3 copies of others existing surveys to give me an idea of what was looked for, including the one from my last boat, and it was ridiculous. They’re not engine surveyors, and I didn’t need to pay someone $600 to tell me which light bulbs were burned out. None of that would have changed the outcome of my purchase. I do hope that you had it hauled to have a look see by someone who knows what they’re looking for though. Good luck with the new purchase. They’re fantastic boats.

Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the sliding door rollers on the main cabin door? I read on here somewhere that someone said they removed theirs and turned them around to get more life and a smoother action out of the door.

I'm actively searching the innerwebs now but thought I'd ask here to speed the process.

Anyone have a number/supplier for the strut on our forward stateroom hatch. I need a new one on the stbd side. Matter of fact, I'd like to replace that whole shade/screen thing too if anyone knows about that.

I'm coming up with oceanaire as a possible vendor.

Oceanaire is most likely the “screen/shade thing,” but not the actual hatch. That is likely Taylormade or Bomar.

I am getting ready to list my 97 DB 400 with diesels. Mine has been fresh water its whole life also. Can you PM with what the market rate is? I have a price in mind and going to list it myself since the brokerage fees at my marina are ten percent. If you don't want to, I understand.

My port fuel gauge does not work. Have grounded out the sending wire and the fuel gauge moves hard right. THerefore i believe the sending unit is bad. Where do i find a replacement ? Is there a part number?
I had a similar issue with my starboard sender... I asked on this forum and the answer I got was they are all different, so I ended up going to MarineMax to be sure I got the right part... that said, I believe the part number for my senders is 9341-A7000 and can be purchased from E-Components at sales@e-components.net or 804-462-5679. Good luck!

Wow Paul! Thanks for that. I'm sure I'll need to know that in the future. Just curious how you figured that out. That company had SO many options.

Need a little help. Have a 2001 40DB and need to replace the sliding door latch hardware. has anyone sourced these parts or kit. have been trying to search but have come up with nothing yet.

They've been sourced before on this thread. I think it was mobella. There is also a write up somewhere in here with regards to changing to a different style that is easier to grip.
