The Rain - oh the rain

Woke up and headed up to Dunedin this morning. Did a little shopping, and had lunch. Saw the rain on radar and blasted back to Clearwater.

Rained on/off till about 6:30. Turned out to be a nice evening. We fired up the grill, had dinner, and walked up to have ice cream.

Today was a great day!

Yesterday the first part of the day was wonderful. We came out of Tampa bay, ran outside to Clearwater inlet. Sea's were probably less than a foot.

After we got in, tied up. Decided to take the tender up to Dunedin for lunch. Maybe a 10-20 minute ride.

Rain came in while we were there. Debated waiting it out or just going. We went.

Heavy rain all the way back - right when we got to the boat - it stopped.

We were soaked to the skin. Not a dry thread on us.

Cloudy today, but no rain forecasted till late afternoon. Taking the tender over to the beach, find something to eat for lunch over there.

Cloudy - but storm her yet. Looked this morning at the weather. Looks like upper gulf coast will get some rain.

Third day in a row that the weather was nice and I got to take the boat out.
Thunderstorm tomorrow though.

Ok - If you are watching the Sub Tropical storm Alberto - we are also.

Weathering the passing of the storm on the boat. Feel good about the tie up. Double lines, extra fenders. We are not in the path, just catching the side of it as it moves on up the gulf.

Most of the forecasts have the heavier winds hitting us before daylight. Forecast is saying sustained in the 25 range, gusts to 40.

Forecast is for this to be a heavy rain event - but not a significant wind.

We are midway through a Phase 10 card game - will pick it up tomorrow. Do not think we will be wandering around on the tender tomorrow. We did pick up extra Carmel corn and ice cream at Publix this afternoon.

When we headed down for this trip, expected some rain, but did not expect this.

One note. Often times there are discussions about what lines are needed on a boat.

When we bought this boat last fall, I replaced almost all of the lines. I bought many more than required for the nightly tie up.

This afternoon, I am walking the dock deciding where to add lines. We had the lines I wanted to add in the lockers. If I was dependent on running to west marine to pick up some lines - would not have got them.

You don't wait for bad conditions to buy the lines - buy them and put them on the boat. I was glad I did.

Guess we will learn how I did at "tie up school".

My Cape Coral dockmate just texted me - 35-45 Gust 55. 10-14' seas outside and "extremely rough" bay and inland waters...

Haven't seen anything like that here. Sun is shining. Pretty windy but I would guess gusts around 15-20.

A few boats out, not much traffic though.

Sun just broke out about an hour ago, made it to the beach. Definitely windy with a few 30kt’ers through the morning hours. Nice enough a few boaters heading out now.

Your buddy is BS'n yah. I'm in Cape Coral been about a 15 mph wind all day. Not on the boat today but doubt 10 to 14.
This would be an average day on Cape Cod Mass.

Happy Memorial Day!

Clearwater beach was blowing 20-25 kts strait out of the south with some strong gust mixed in occasionally. No rain in the afternoon, but very cloudy

We had guests on board and decided to take a lunch cruise and headed up the the intercoastal. Not to bad, but not many protected anchorages with a south wind, so headed back to the dock for a grill out.

Our slip is north facing and getting her back into the slip was easy, but I wouldn’t want to do that with a 20kt crosswind!

Grilled out, had some drinks and had a wonderful afternoon. Heavy rain blew through about 6pm and cut the festivities short, but still a good time.

Yep, wind today was worse than yesterday. We are on the face dock at harbor.

Folding the tent tomorrow headed back to Texas. Out of the 10 days here have had some wonderful days.

Have pics, will upload on the plane.

Looks like gusts were well in excess of 30kts yesterday afternoon here at Clearwater Beach. Below is the observed winds and gusts.

Yes, the wind lately has been brutal! We made it to the boat Friday afternoon and it was really calm and all weekend was pretty nice. Even yesterday in the 90’s was sweet!

I thought the wind was strong yesterday - until dtfeld posted that chart, didn't realize it was in the mid 30 Knot range. We were tied up to a floating dock, the waves from the ICW were coming over the dock at times.

This morning was calm and nice - as we put the boat in its slip and went to the airport...

It was a great day here in Clearwater. Finally. Been crappy the last 2 time here.
