Through the help of this forum I diagnosed my port engine with a failed shift actuator. I ordered a new one on ebay and the guy never shipped it and the purchase is now in dispute. I was hoping to use the boat this weekend. We were thinking of going to a sand bar about 2 miles away. Obviously it would be a slow journey but who cares. Can any harm come to the boat by running just one engine?

Yes, should be fine. Lots of folks with twins alternate between engines when fishing. We've also limped to the repair shop on one engine in a 3-4 hour trip. Boat doesn't track as well on one engine, of course.

Yep, all good. I asked what package because inboards need the cooling on the shafts but IO's don't have that problem. power steering probably only runs off the starboard engine so if that's the one with the bad actuator you may want to fire it up when leaving/returning from the dock so you have it for maneuvering

Power steering runs off one engine (even though both have pumps installed) hard to steer without it.....if the one with the pump is the side that's inop be prepared......will the inop side at least run? if it will run but not go in gear at least it would solve the PS problem....

great point.
When I ran it with one engine the starboard engine was active. To prove the actuator was bad I switched it to the port side. I can easily switch it back to starboard. That would have really thrown me for a loop without knowing that.

Thanks for the heads up.
