Can someone recommend battery replacements and tell me which ones are for what? I think I have two batteries on either side

BPR6ES-hot plug works for me

NGK- hot plug is just a description

NGK BPR4ES. It's what was in the boat when we got it (2009). Usually get a full season out of a set.

Batteries. And I think I already know the answer to this question, but here goes. I (like all of us) have 3 battery solenoids ..port, starboard, and generator. When I de-energize the port battery solenoid, all the house functions like lights, refrigerator, etc turn off. Now I checked the two batteries on the port side, and they are both 24 series marine starting batteries. On the starboard side is where two 27 series deep cycle batteries are. Is it possible that the labels port and starboard switches have nothing to do with the actual positions of the batteries? Is it possible that someone installed starting batteries as the house batteries and vice verse? I know that the only way to find out what's what is to go and disconnect batteries and see what no longer has power, etc, etc. Just wondering if any of you had a similar experience. I will (likely this week sometime) get in there to see what's what as I'm replacing my batteries in the next two weeks.

So after consulting the manual, it says all batteries should be of the same type, age, and rating. Recommended batteries are group 31, 800 CCA, and with a 200 minute reserve capacity. So I have no idea why my port bank are starting batteries and different from starboard ...and starting batteries appear to be house batteries. I'll probably replace all 4 with something like these: (Group 31, 1000 CCA, 200 minute reserve)

I don't know, but when I bought my boat I had the owners mechanic replace all my batteries. He replaced them with these. I'm going on my 3rd season and I leave them in the boat over the winter switching the shore power on and off once a week. I have to note I have a thing for lights on my boat..LOL and these hold up real well. Never had a problem and cost just over $100 each local.

I replaced my four batteries with Autocraft Group 31s in 2013 and still going strong, but will probably replace this season as a precaution since going on 5 yrs. They're a bargain at Advance Auto for a little over $100 each last time I checked.

Unfortunately I'm in Canada so my choices in batteries are somewhat limited. I suppose if I didn't want to spend $1400 (taxes included) I could go with 4 of these albeit not exactly what the manual says. These are 800 "marine cranking amps" (so probably 700CCA), 175 minute reserve, and 105 amp hours. Only concern is we're going to be on the hook for 2 weeks this summer ...granted recharging via genny during the day at times. Thoughts?

I would think you'd be fine with those. I spent 2 weeks on a mooring with a slightly higher spec AcDelco batteries (hcm31smf 830 cca / 200 rc / 110 ah) and was fine running the genny in the morning and evening.

Kevin,

Post a link to the ones you order and confirm fit. I’d like to order some as well.

Tim:

These are the ones I ordered and I installed them this evening. Fit was great and seemed to solve my raw water pressure issue.

This is the link to Amazon. Time will tell how they hold up but for $18 ea delivered I could replace them every year and still be way ahead of purchasing the merc belt.

I feel your pain, I just replaced all five of my batteries with Crown Severe Duty group 31's. Only got 4 years out of my Sears Platinum AGM's, I was hoping for more.
