420 DA Thread

email me Rob@firstrefrigeration.net Ill send u pics and measurements when I'm on the boat. The only thing that is tricky is the mount. The mounts I found suck!!!! They all have set screw on top that u cant access due to the design of the TV. The screw holds the tv side of the bracket to the wall side of the bracket. ( so it cant bounce off in seas )

Rob
I am not worried about the mount... I am coming up with something different for the old hole.. just looking for what size tv would look good - email: sterex28@yahoo.com

Guys, after looking at countless google searches and other posts, my conclusion is that Sea Ray used a "cellular foam" material windshield screw cover trim...when my boat was new. That material clearly ages and seems to shrink. Mine, for example is quite gray in color and gapped at various places in the track where the windshield meets the deck on the outside leading to a river of water on the inside which winds up by my sink in heavy rain. Since then, the "new" replacement material is that sold by Flounder Pounder #8349030. Apparently it is also sold by Taylormadesystems with some additional fees. My boat is wrapped for winter so I cannot be the guinea pig for awhile.

Well, I've finally taken some pics of the shrunken/missing windshield screw cover trim on my boat:

I need to replace mine as well....Along the side there is a miter cut and the rubber is glued together....what are you guys planning on using for glue ?

Ok so I have some electrical intrigue and any input would be appreciated.

I have a major power drain on the port side...so bad the batteries get "stone dead".

I'll do things in chronological order.

This is not a problem but may be a clue Several weeks ago we had the heat running and a slight wire burning smell came from the salon vent, quick on the take, I shut everything down and found that the salon AC unit was iced up pretty good so I decided let it defrost and check it later. The AC unit is working fine now.

A week later we paid a visit and noticed the galley fridge wasn't working. After turning some lights on and the stereo, within a half hour or so, the stereo went dead and then the Carbon Monoxide detectors starting beeping at regular intervals. I took a look for anything that might seem out of place in the engine room, battery banks , breakers etc and everything seemed fine. Decided to start the engines up, needed emergency power for port side. Aside from that, everything started up fine and ran nice. I ran the engines for a spell and the suddenly the fridge is working the stereo system works again and the carbon Monoxide detectors are happy.

Somehow I came to the conclusion that I might have a bad battery on the port side and I replace both the next day. Everything seems to working fine...except the fridge. For some reason that seems to only work when the engines are running.

Back a couple of days later, go to start the engines to continue trying to unravel this mystery and both sides need emergency start. after starting, batteries come up to charge and everything seems OK...except the fridge, thinking the fridge is temperamental and the batteries are low as the new ones hadn't reached full cycle...blind optimism.

Last night while hoping to make a weekend of it, everything seemed to be OK...except the fridge. Started the engines, needed emergency power on the port side but this time I had to hold down the emergency power switch after to keep the port engine running for a couple of minutes. I guess the alternator got enough juice to the batteries and everything seemed fine after shutting down, except the fridge of course.

Left for a bit and when we came back, the carbon monoxide detectors were beeping, the lights throughout the boat were really dim. Decided to start the engines to charge things up to try to do some evaluating. Emergency start needed for port but not starboard.Had to hold down the switch for a bit to keep the port engine running. After a few minutes was able to release the switch only to have whatever is draining suck things down enough to kill the engine.

Some info that may help:
Galley freezer, cockpit fridge and 110 outlets are working fine.
Shore power seems fine.
Meters at the electrical panel show 100 volts AC. DC meters show 13-ish volts DC starboard ZERO on the port side.
No tripped breakers anywhere.

Any ideas? Any more info needed? I'm headed to the marina in a few and will start probing around with a meter. I'm suspicious of the battery charger and need to figure out how to get to it.

Bad battery charger is a thought if it's shorted and actually draining the batteries itself. But just being bad and not charging wouldn't explain how fast your batteries are discharging

Have not fully disconnected the fridg, only shut of switch at panel. Will disconnect that completely this morning as well....thx

I would check for loose battery cables and start eliminating units plugged into DC (like the fridge). You could do this by simply keeping breakers off.

I did some disconnecting. Battery leads solid and tight. It seems the battery charger is toast. I had to remove it to test it, removed the battery leads and I've got 117-120V Ac in but nothing out. Stilled baffled that thee engine would cut out from really low battery.
I just ordered a new one, will post my progress.

Has anyone replaced your hatch lift actuator?... I just bumped into the port one and it broke...so it must have been close to going. I remember reading a post a while ago about replacing with a different manufacturer but can't find it.

Thanks

I am looking for a console canvas for my "05 420 DA, has anyone got a source? A friend of mine has one for his 06 44 DA and I love it. I cover my console with towels now, just dont like the look of it!!!

Does anyone have a ray 230 handset microphone they would like to sell?

I have a Ray240 complete set that I just pulled from the boat during a recent electronics upgrade. I am not sure if it is compatible with the ray230 but if so I will part ways with it.

Thanks but I don't think they are compatible. The outer insulation on the cord on mine has two areas where it is cracked and the wires are exposed. It is working but I was thinking if someone had one they took out I would buy it to have on hand in case mine quits. I will probably replace the whole radio with a new one at the end of the season or next winter when the boat is in storage. Thanks for the reply.

You can buy a replacement cord from Raymarine thru West marine.. I can't find the part number they should be able to look it up

I have a part number that I got from Raymarine customer service, R49085. They told me to contact a local Raymarine distributor. I gave that number to them, they contacted Raymarine to get one and they told them it is no longer available. I will try West Marine and some other local dealers.
