Generator leaking?

In post #35 I think I have every part shown including the fuel pump; in fact I believe I have just about a complete generator less engine block just sitting around. PM me if you need something.

Thank You very much for the offer. I'm 3 weeks to getting it much closer to home. My fear right now is tightening something and cracking it, making things much much worse right before a 14 day cruise with tbge fam.

Once I get it closer to home, I'll start working the problem, and may take you up on the offer

Well, I may have found the culprit to the leaky generator while replacing all the fuel filters.

I noticed just a small amount oil shininess on the oil filter and right above that was the secondary fuel filter. The secondary filters o-ring had taken a set. I’m hoping that was it.

However, the bowl has some corrosion on the bottom, and it could be enough to cause a leak. I’ll have to keep an eye on that. Beyond that, there is corrosion on several of the fuel lines, so I’ll keep an eye on those too.

See post #19 and 22 above. Do I win a stuffed animal? ;-)

Our 450 had a diesel leak on the gen. Turned out to be the short hose from the fuel pump to the filter, It had a sharp bend in it and leaked where the crimp was on the fuel hose. Ended up making a longer hose, I spent a long time finding the leak, I feel your pain. Like Frank said, Jump in with bare hands, Diesel is the manly smell !!

Ding ding ding!!!!! We have a winner!

Although, I’m not convinced I’ve got it just yet. The genny is going to need some TLC over the next winter.

Maybe this will push me over the top for the "Technical Advisor" badge!

Good luck, I truly hope this solves your problem! Make sure you remove BOTH those orings and replace with new ones.

Thanks Carter. I was more of a prep-work guy and historian on that job. Jon and Dale ran that show like men on a mission.

The search continues!

This is the filter bowl...This and several other fuel lines are pretty corroded, so I think I'll start replacing these to head off any trouble before it starts.

The 410DA is notorious for rusty generators. Some issue with rainwater draining on top of it. Not really why but what you see is common with this model.

Well she's going into a covered fresh water slip, so I expect I can get ahead of this with a little TLC.

Wah,wah wah...unfortunately, it was not the fuel filter.

Ran the generator for several hours and fuel was present on the absorbstion pad I left under it, so I now suspect the hard fuel supply line from where leaves the electric fuel pump up to the injector pump.

Luckily we’re at places with shore power all week, but I’ll have to continue this once we get the boat home and I can get better eyes on it.

Bummer!
