Lake Saint Clair Peeps

I’d be pretty hot!
Yea, it had me worked up a bit but then I realized all I was doing was working myself into a real bad mood. Boating is to be fun, so I let it go. The marina where I winter store (I think the same place as Blueone) is real good to me. The General Manager there does the best he can with weather and slow boat owners affecting when he can get me in the water. Due to my work schedule, the GM usually lets me float for a while and never pushes me out of the marina once I splash. I typically launch at the end of the day, stay there on the boat and take off in the morning. That will be the plan this week, can't wait to come out of the North Channel, round Grassy Island, making the turn towards Bouvier Bay and into our home port.

It's not going to stop me. I have been getting the new electronics installed these last couple days and I'm itching to try them out. I guess on the bright side I can watch the rain come in on the new Phantom radar.

Wont stop us either. Will be down Friday after work. Plan is to put the motor on the dinghy this weekend. I thought I had heard that Island Grill opened yesterday, maybe I will grab a bit to eat and a beer as a test run on the dinghy.

Did you tell us about what you had installed, or do you still owe us that? :D

Where do I start????.... Garmin 7612 chartplotter, Garmin 4' Fantom open array, Garmin Intelliducer Transducer, Garmin VHF, Fusion RA70N stereo, Fusion 5 channel Amp (400 watt), Fusion remote (at the helm), Infinity 10" sub (with RGB's), and 4- 6.5" Infinity speakers (with RGB's). I will try and get some pics this weekend.
We were going to head down your way to Cedar Point on the 24th but it sounds like it is getting postponed.

Yes finally! We'll be up there Friday around 5ish
I hope to dink over on Saturday, by the time I get to the boat after work on Fridays, it is usually around 7pm. I don't take the big boat to Island Grill, don't like the narrow channel and know more than one person who wasted a prop on logs around the entrance. From our home port, Island Grill is perfect for the dink.

I plan on going for a little cruise somewhere this weekend. I haven't taken the boat out of the marina since we put in on the 23rd. I will bounce between channel 71 (CSR-lake st. clair peeps) and 72 (M dock) if anyone is cruising around give a shout out to Bottoms Up so I can radio check that new VHF.:D

Niiiiiice! Make sure they tie the Fusion gear into your NMEA2000 network...? You have an MMSI?

If you don't make it to CP soon, please post some sceen-shots of the radar echoes. I'm curious to see what Fantom can do. (if you keep a blank SD card in the plotter, screenshots can be written directly to it)

Do you run ActiveCaptain on a tablet or phone?

Really?! I've never heard of this being an issue before. We've been going there for years and never had a problem. Where do you run into issues? It is a tight channel for sure though

Thanks Roller, Fusion is tied to NEMA2000. I don't have an MMSI yet. Don't run ActiveCaptain, but I'm going to be looking into all this now that I have updated electronics. I'm not the most techy guy so I need to do some learning.
I'll try to get some screenshots soon.

I'll come across the canal and help you program your VHF.

Do you know if you have to run a wire from the Fusion head unit to the GPS to be able to control the Fusion from the GPS, or is it wireless? And what advantages are there in tying in the GPS and stereo?

Yes, it requires a cable, but if you have a remote at the helm (and compatible/capable equipment) that’s already done. You can remove the cable from the remote, and then add it and a “T” to your NMEA2000 backbone. Then get a new cable and another T for the remote and do the same thing. My UD750 injects power for a directly-connected remote. Since an NM2k network can only have 1 power source, that setting has to be off.

As far as benefits: at the dock/anchor, your plotter becomes a 12” touchscreen interface for all stereo functions. Underway, quick audio controls and info can be inserted on the nav screen, while quick volume adjustments etc. can still be done with the remote.
