Hi Everyone. I for the life of me can't find the reservoir for my gear oil.

I have an 1993 Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha One engine with a 1998 Alpha One Gen 2 drive. Engine's serial #: 0f077629, Drives Serial: 1a222953

Everywhere seems to imply that I should have a remote reservoir (including the manual), but I just can't find it. There is one reservoir I found that I have no idea what it is, but I'm pretty sure it's not the gear oil. I've attached a photo of that part. Can anyone tell me where to find it?

Here are the photos of the unknown part: https://photos.app.goo.gl/mwCy0QbsDPUXg1kq2

I don't think Merc started using the remote reservoir until the mid-90's. The picture is your power trim pump. What manual is this that talks about the reservoir - maybe it's a newer manual. Google for the reservoir and you'll find pictures of it. It's usually mounted top, front, port side.

Thanks for the response. So when I'm refilling the leg, I just stop pumping once the oil comes out of the upper vent hole? There is no dip stick on the leg or remote reservoir that I can find, so I have no idea how to check the levels.

Yes, that is the way to do it. Nothing out of the norm - been done that way (and still is) for many, many years.

Your welcome.

Just a side point... even if you had a remote reservoir, and you filled up this "normal" way, you would NOT be underfilling anything. All matters is that the gearcase is filled - the rest is all extra.
