Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Newbie here and figuring out things. My swim platform is aweful low to the water in my opinion. It comes up from the water 4 inches or so without standing on the platform or people on the boat. How high is everyone elses? Just want to compare notes. Does it go below the surface when getting up to plane impacting performance? I took notice as I was looking at other boats on the dock. Had no idea when I bought the boat since it was on dry dock. My fuel is at 50%, empty water tanks and the boat is not laden with any equipment/ crap (yet). Thx!

There's a long discussion on this earlier in the thread, but to summarize, 280's vary from model year/optional equipment (engines/genset)/and manufacture location (AZ or TN). my 2004 280 with twin 4.3s and a gen sits at the water level where it joins the hull. Wouldn't mind it being a bit higher to stop the "blowhole" effect when anchored in chop, but love that it's close to the water to sit on.

So I lost my stbd blower vent cover... They are like unicorns... Anyone have a source?

If the above is true your batteries are toast.

I'd pull them and take them in for testing.
Today, one button will be depressed and no lights and then press another button and the former button would turn on. even weirder : Cockpit light button is off but cockpit lights are on even with all batteries turned off. thoughts anyone? Bad Ground?

There was someone selling on them on Ebay a while back. I lost one of mine at the dock in 30 ft of water. I went to the Sea Ray dealer to get a replacement figuring it was a cheap piece of fiberglass. Sea Ray wanted about $900 to make one for me as the part was discontinued but they still had the molds. I hired a diver for $75 to find the one at the dock.

My 280DA also sat low in the water. Where the swim platform attached to the hull it was about two inches under water. I didn't notice this when I bought the boat as the sea trial was in salt water and it did not sit as low because of the buoyancy from the salt water. When I moved it to fresh water it was noticeable. The main complaint I had was that the molding and bottom of the swim platform always had a dirty ring from sediment in the water. Plus the blow hole effect when anchored. There was no impact on performance as the platform is well out of the water when on plane.

I'm still fighting to understand why my bilge blower switch in the electrical panel will not work, while my bilge blower switch on the portside helm panel works fine. My research has led to the Halon/Fire system interface that apparently lies between the EIMs and the blowers to turn them off them in case of a Halon discharge. Does anyone know where this is module is mounted in the 280?

Thanks,
John

This is the step light I was referring to in an earlier post Is it controlled by the companionway switch or is there another switch? I put a new bulb in as well as a voltmeter and nothing.

i have not - wikk try it this weekend. If that's the case then what is the companionway switch for?

I have confirmed that my step light comes on with the cockpit lights. While the term companionway seems much more nautical, I would say that our "COMP" light actually translates to "compartment" as it activates the lights in the under sink and transom storage compartments.

A big THANKS - I would have never thought of cockpit lights associated with an internal step light - but it makes sense.

I do not see any info in the manuals on the tv or dvd player. Does the tv automatically connect to the external antenna? or is there a switch or amp? I have no tv reception at all.

There is a switch on the glomex amp that is behind the tambour door near your cooktop to the right. You kind of have to reach in to feel it, it's a dial type switch

We had a tornado or micro-burst pass through my area last Tuesday. My boat struck the dock and badly damaged the aft portion of the swim platform. Sea Ray sells parts for boats only up to 7 years, so not able to get a replacement from them. Anyone know of one available in the Northeast? My marina would do the repair, but they are tied up rebuilding the damage to the marina. I'd rather replace than repair with this type damage.

Can anyone help me to understand why all the lights in my starboard switch pad at the helm just blink and nothing works? Was working fine the other day, now I get nothing but all led's blinking or flashing and no control of anything on that panel. The port panel works fine, and seems to control circuits on both the forward and aft eim, which I can hear the relays click when buttons are pushed. Could the keypad itself have gone bad? Main engines work fine, but generator won't engage the starter either and there is a "clicking" relay type noise at the genny that seems to correlate with the flashing switch panel lights.

does anyone know how to stop the galley faucet from running? I unscrewed the caps of the hot and cold and then unscrewed the phillips screws. i cant seem to find a way to tighten valves.(do the valves unscrew ith a wrench?
