Navionics

I'm running Navionics on a tablet using Sonarphone. I can pretty much do anything I need within app.

Mine too - but I really want to transfer my routes from my Navionics Boating app to my Axioms. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.

Quick update on this - still no success transferring routes from my Boating app to the Axiom and worse yet, it appears that my Platinum + card may now be corrupted. Oh boy - I get to call Navionics again tomorrow!

So I'm still working through getting my Axiom 12 MFDs to synchronize routes with my Navionics Boating app. I have a tech support case open with Navionics and will report back regarding my results. This is what I accomplished so far:

- Upgraded both Axioms to Lighthouse 3.4.66
- Removed my Navionics Platinum Plus card and updated maps, sonar logs and community edits using the Chart Installer software
- Reinstalled the Platinum Plus card on my Master Axiom MFD
- Synced my iPad Boating app with the MFDs and got the following errors:
"No routes or markers transferred. Save to your plotter card first"
"Sonar logs not found"
"Your plotter card is not compatible with Plotter Sync"
"Plotter card not compatible"

So after speaking with a Navionics rep this morning (after a one hour hold time!!!), she suggested removing the data card from my secondary MFD and attempting the sync again. If it doesn't work she said they would replace my Platinum Plus card. I'm trying to figure out an excuse to go to the marina tomorrow to try this solution out. It's driving me nuts!
This is why I like the "comparative" simplicity in the Garmin products and their external interfacing devices and App's.

I corrupted my Navionics+ card also. I had to call Navionics. I don't know how many times they will re-initiate my card. Until I updated my MFD software I couldn't transfer a route. I can now.

Had Garmin on my old boat and have Raymarine on this one.
The Garmin was simpler for me to use and when I bought their Map software card so I could do auto-routing, I bought it once.
Last year I bought the Navionics to use with my Raymarine for the same reason but had to renew it two weeks ago for $99.00 as soon as it was a year old for the auto-routing to continue working.

Can you please confirm your setup and LH version? And you can transfer routes from your ipad to your MFD?

This is mine:

Axiom 12 - Lighthouse 3.4.66
Navionics - Platinum Plus
Boating app on iPad - updated maps/latest version

Thank you!

I was told by Raymarine you cannot transfer a route from Navionics App to MFD and had to use Voyage Planner. Voyage Planner writes a file called archive.fsh. I used my maps from Navionics with Voyage Planner and it rendered my card useless. They had to re-initiate it.

Hope this clears up any confusion on my part. I was upset my card was wiped clean!

FWIW, sent the following email in March of this year to a contact at Raymarine:

A friend of mine just bought a used boat that has a Garmin set up. We spent a few days on the ICW and Offshore. He was charting his route on his laptop then uploading to the Garmin MFD. Also had Active Captain input on charts.

Is there a similar Raymarine Software for route planning on a laptop then transferring to the e127?

I’m currently using Lighthouse II, inland lakes chip (premium or platinum). In a couple of years, plan to take to the coast but for now on Lake Lanier. Not sure what charts I would or should be using at that point.

Mainly asking so I can learn how to use the software.

I then received the following reply:

We can use Active Captain via the C-MAP charts.

Here is the link:

We are working on a Raymarine “Link” app to streamline waypoint and route management. I don’t have a date but have seen some beta versions which is a good sign.

The access to my data cards is on the back of the Axiom units so every time I need to access them I have to take the dash apart. If the sync from the Navionics Boating app to the Axioms is not available wirelessly then I'm going to take the time to create my routes on the Axioms directly instead. It's just not worth having to pull the dash apart every time I want to transfer routes!!

Can you transfer the file over wi-fi from a laptop?

No. There is not PC or Mac Boating app by Navionics. Just a web interface and iOS.

The iPad will transfer updated map data so that’s something. The software on the Axiom will update via WiFi through our cellular hotspot which is helpful too. At this point it’s just the routes and waypoints that are not transferring.

Quick update on this topic - I was finally able to successfully import my routes from my Navionics Boating app on my iPad into our Axiom 12 MFDs!

Here is the process:
  • On the Boating app, make sure that the routes that you have saved are routes you actually want on your MFD
  • Ensure that the route names are 15 characters or less
  • Make sure that the only data card inserted into your MFDs is the Navionics card - remove any other data cards from secondary or non-master MFDs
  • Update your maps on your tablet
  • Connect your tablet to your master MFD via wifi and allow the data to synchronize with your Axioms
  • Once the process is done, go to your menu and click on MyData
  • Touch Import, then SD Card, then Navionic, then Archive, then Routes
  • Select the route you want to import and you should receive a confirmation from the MFD
That's it!!
