Kohler 6.5CZ Won't Start

I have a '95 Kohler 6.5CZ with 440 hours that upon purchase had a new fuel pump installed. It ran for about 5 minutes until it sputtered out and died. From then on, I have to give a slight dose of ether to get about 1 minute of run time. It does the same whether it is hot or cold so it couldn't be temp. Do you think he simply didn't prime the pump well enough? I ordered a complete tune up kit as I heard that the spark plugs are extremely tempormental. Any guidance would be appreciated!

I've seen Kohler's have not only spark plug issues but choke, carb and solid state control board issues. Sounds like yours is fuel or plug related.

My 6.5 has an electric fuel pump so I wouldnt think it would have a priming issue. Make sure you have plenty of fuel in the tank the genny draws from. Some setups are such that they wont supply fuel to the genny at less than 1/4 full. Mine pulls from the port fuel tank. Sounds as if someone has been working in the engine bay, check your fuel valves to make sure they havent been bumped partially closed. Kohlers hate dirty spark plugs, and #1 dirties alot, change them.
