I have my boat in storage an hour away and know I need to put new batteries in it. I was hoping to buy the batteries and bring them with me, but I don't know the group size. Anybody know what it is?

Also, I have never opened the hatch with dead batteries before. Anybody know the right way to do that? I remember hearing there was an adapter for a cigarette lighter I needed to hook up to a jump box or something like that?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly you can power the hatch via the 12V plug at the helm.

The batteries are Group 31. And if you have a portable batter pack with a cigarette lighter adapter you just plug the adapter into the cigarette plug in on dash and that will supply the power to then use hatch lift buttons.

Not specifically what you asked, but if ever you can't open the hatch electrically, there is a mechanical solution.

Lift the carpet and you will see two inspection plates. Open those up and reach down into the hole. Feel around on the underside of the hatch until you locate the top mounts for the lift struts. There is a pin you can pull on each strut.

Once pulled, you should be able to lift the hatch manually. Its awkward, but it does work. Of course the jump pack is a far easier solution, and IMO you should carry one of those with you anyways.

I purchased a lighter plug with alligator clips on amazon. Use it with spare battery or jump box.

If and when you do get it open you have a few options. Wire in directly to the motors a new feed to a convenient area and either use the jumper plug arrangement found on wreckers or 2 SS button heads that you can attach jumpers or jump box to

I had this scenario two years ago with the boat in storage. FWIW my solenoids are disengaged during storage (I assume this is standard?). For whatever reason I could not get my "jump-pack via lighter routine" to work in this configuration. I tried both cigerrette lighters. It may be that I have a cheapo jump pack but I could not get the solenoids to pull-in and I could not, as a result, get the hatch lift to function.

This could have been the fact that my batteries were really, really dead. Or my Stanley jump pack wasn't up to the challenge. In my defense I was 100% sober at the time :)

Just thought I'd mention that the jump-pack may not be a slam dunk for all us...

If you have access to AC power plug the shore power in and turn on the battery charger (AC converter). That will power the dead batteries enough to raise the hatch.
