In less than a year my pump has failed. This will be my second time doing this sh**++ job. My first pump was just old age and lack of use. My second, turns out it cam from a sunken dock box. This time I'm going new.

I'm looking at two pumps, Surflow and the Jabsco. Can anyone give my some reviews?

Do you even need a macerator?

I replaced the original one on my old 87 300 with a Jabsco and it worked well.
Being able to empty when out in the ocean is a nice option.

Woody, no not really but I want to keep all the systems working as they were meant to. I just don't want to ever have to do this one again

I have a sealand t series discharge pump. Works well and is serviceable.

Curious.....how did you find out your pump failed? You're a long way from an area that's legal to discharge in aren't you.

Oops........... Jabsco can be rebuilt. Don't buy the west marine brand one. They don't have a rebuild kit.

I woudn't worry too much about being "that guy" that uses his macerator. Your local municipality no doubt discharges more waste into your waters than your boat ever could. I understand why overboard discharge is illegal, and I support it, but I don't quite understand folks that get a little bent when guys comment on using their macerators. Recreational marine blackwater discharge isn't even a fraction of a percent of the poop flowing into our waterways.

Just don't get caught :)

Woody there is a screw in the back of the unit that should turn freely. Once in awhile, while I'm down there working, I take a driver down there and turn the pump. This past time the screw would not turn. I tried the key and it tripped the breaker. The pump or its motor is frozen up.

I read on one online review that the Jabsco unit is noisy and poorly built, but that was the one from WM. I need to look and see if BOE sells them tonight.

Besides, 99% of the time it is only pee....

Our macerator is in the head and processes every flush, so FWIW: a couple of years ago our very noisy Jabsco took a dump (couldn't resist) and we installed the Jabsco direct replacement model, which is just as noisy. Performance wise, though, we've had no issues, and it does get a workout as we spend many weekends on the boat and our rule is "human waste only" not "pee only"

If your macerator is in the ER and has very limited use, is noise a deciding factor?
