What does drowning look like?

Excellent information for us water lovers. Their actions/non-actions + the look in their eyes can definitely give you a strong clue as to what is actually happening. My PADI 'Rescue Diver' course years ago taught me how to deal with a drowning victim & you often hear of a would-be rescuer also drowning while attempting to save someone in distress. If you are ever in this situation, amongst other things, never approach the victim from the front as their natural instinct will be to grab onto you. I would like to segue into another type of drowning, but I don't want to hijack this thread. I will start another 'ESD' thread.

GFC - thanks for posting this. My wife and I were both shocked. This is very helpful!

Having been a Paramedic for 25 years I think it is important for everyone to know that pretty much anyone that drowns anywhere north of Atlanta Ga. should be considered a cold water drowning. The human body has an amazing ability to preserve itself when immursed in cold water. In a word start CPR!!! I have personally witnessed the complete return of respiration’s on a 10 year old that had been underwater for more than 20 minutes. To the average onlooker the child was obviously dead. My partner and I began CPR and resuscitative efforts immediately and transported to ER. If you don’t know CPR....learn it. It could be a loved one you save.
