So this weekend I slipped and broke a plastic connector on the throttle body of my engine. I went to the Mercury site and got the part number and began my crawl of the internet. I was lucky and found one site that still carried the part. Every other site I went to said it was no longer available. What the heck do you do when you need a specific part and it's no longer available?

For future reference... It might just be that it is superseded by a new part part/number. Best thing to do is to actually contact a real Merc dealer. I'd be HIGHLY surprised if that part isn't still normally available.

A lot of times you can contact the original manufacturer of a part directly, and they can advise. For example, I just ordered a short cockpit table pedestal directly from Garrick after scouring the internet for days. The bottom line, is many of these companies' internet inventory systems are put up as an afterthought. As much as we like to think human-interaction is no longer required these days, you may be surprised what you can accomplish with a few well placed phone calls.

I agree. I do search on the internet, like most folks nowadays, but it's often easier and faster to just make a 3 minute phone call.

Knock on wood that I don't find a NLA mechanical or electrical part but if I did run across one I would definitely post up all the details and a picture on here to widen the search.

Never know someone might have an extra in their tool box.

From experience... having a 30 year old VW I really rely on forums and Facebook groups for finding tough parts.

Well I got an email this morning showing the refund of the part. They no longer stock it. I called Mercury and was basically told they don't make it and they don't have a supplier that has it in stock. So now I'm screwed. So I'm calling out to the community to see if someone knows of a way I can get part number 807097T it's for an 2000 5.0 serial number 0L656968.

I checked my goto place (marineengine.com) and confirmed NLA and there is no alternative available.
Take the broken one to the machine shop and have them fabricate one from aluminum or ABS. Or if you are handy possibly do it yourself.....
The only other possibility is at a marine boneyard.
