I need to change oil on my 8.1s this month. What oil change pump are you DIYers using? What are the pros and cons? I am able to stand between my motors and the 8.1s have the screw on adapters on the top end of the dipsticks. (Yes, I plan on changing the oil in the trannys and genny as well.)

I've tried them all and this one is the best, hands down. Great b/c when you need to empty the bucket you reverse the pump and run the oil into empty gallon jugs for proper disposal. More expensive than alternative pumps but Jabsco is a quality pump and 8.1s contain a lot of oil (for gas engines) and this makes quick work of it. Shop around - you may find a better price...

I had the Topsider. Hated it b/c you can't see how much oil you've gotten out. Slow too. Bought it for my first boat, used it once and sold it on ebay.

Had that one too. Still do. Used it twice and mothballed it. Takes too long, esp with twin engines. Your link is for the 3 quart model. They do make a larger capacity model, which is the one I bought.

Here's a better price. This is the next best thing to a Reverso built in system...

Ron.....do you use the hose fitting attachment or the skinny tube down the dipstick?

I used to use the skinny tube but realized that the hose and the fitting work so much better.

Another endorsement of rondds’ recommendation. It’s a great pump.
Don’t go for the cheaper one mounted on the rectangular tank by the same company. I had that at first and it died quickly. The cheaper pump wasn’t serviceable so I had to toss the whole thing.
Went for the better one the next time around and have had several trouble free years with it.
Being able to pump out of the bucket is a big plus.
Don’t use it as much because my current boat has a Reverso on it but still use it for my kids boat and a couple of friends borrow it all of the time because they like it so much.

I have the 1st one rondds recommended. I found the skinny tube wasn't long enough for the 8.1's down the dipstick so used the screw on fittings for the first time. I then bought a longer skinny tube to hit the bottom of sump in the 8.1.s. Its probably quicker using the screw on style fitting anyway so if thats your preference there's no need to source a longer skinny hose.

Also don't reverse the motor to pump out the old oil with the skinny tube in place - best to remove it (as per the instructions). The plastic retic style clamp doesn't clamp hard enough and the bushed plastic tube is forced out of the larger rubber hose with oil going everwhere in the bilge......don't ask me how I know .

All in all a good pump and is great for 8.1's, trans and generator. I've even used it for my car.

I made marks (gradations) on the bucket so I'd know how much oil I've gotten out. You can see the level of oil/fluid in the bucket b/c it's sort of translucent.

I'm using Jabsco 17800-2000 oil changer for the reasons @rondds mentioned in his (#2) post.
I use the skinny hose for tranny oil extracting and the hose fitting attachment for the mains as my Yanmars' have the round/threaded collar on top of the dipsitck and it's faster to extract 10 liters of engine oil than 5,5 liters atf.

For the red underlined reason I use metal hose clamp instead of the plastic one supplied with the pump as seen in the pic below.

I use that plastic hose clamp to hold the free end of the rubber hose to the handle of the bucket If you clip that free end such that it points to the sky, you won't be mopping up spots of oil that drip out of it when your back is turned for 2 seconds.
