HELP..... 6.2 > 5.7 Dealer Mistake

Thank you, guys! That's very kind of you to say. If only you knew that most of the time I'm just making it up as I go... Oh wait, did I say that outloud?!?! ;) But seriously, thank you.

@Lazy Daze yeah they are a mec dealer. and im sure they'll do it but there is bigger issues at the moment i think but i will call them ono my lunch break and let them know.

That pink stuff looks like ATF, maybe for that bulkhead mounted pump - is that pump for raising/lowering the drive or trim tabs?. Seems way too dark to ber pink antifreeze. Dennis, do you agree?

on the old/original survey it says #OW387678 but in the pics below it says #OW029102
I understand that the old survey and other communications showed a 6.2. But, your survey 2018 shows a 350mag. You'd be right being unhappy about their misrepresentation of the boat, and you should be really unhappy that you didn't follow up on the fact your survey shows a 350mag. That was the proper time to do what you're going through now.

In the end all that matters is that your Bill of Sale says you purchased a 6.2 and that isn't what you got. You say you want the boat anyway, not much to do but try to get some small refund.

The cooling system difference could amount to substantial $$ if you you were led to believe, thought you were buying a 6.2 Horizon and you need FWC where you boat. In that case, the engine difference is worth discussing with the dealer you bought the boat from.

The day to day difference between a 5.7 and a 6.2 ins't hardly noticable. Considering that this is a 14 year old boat, the actual cash difference between the 2, isn't worth making a stink over....provided you don't need the FWC. Also, based on what we see in the south, this appears to be a very clean boat for an '04...........for what it is worth.

I'd be willing to bet the root cause of the misinformation is a salesman or broker who didn't want to get cold and sat at his desk and fillied out the listing form. This is a lot more common than you would hope. I think it is mostly due to so much data being computerized and easily cut-n-pasted from a published spec sheet to a listing form....and, of course, laziness. This past year I helped 3 CSR members search for and look at boats over 40 ft. All totaled, these folks looked at 12 boats in persosn and 6 of the 12 were offered for sale based on listings that were incorrect....wrong engine, missing options, wrong photos, incorrect electronics list, wrong color canvas, etc. Things that were obvious and should have been to a broker who listed the boat if he had just looked at it and opened the engine hatches. So, incorrect sales info does exist and underlines the need to look at a boat in detail in person before contracting to puirchase it.

Alright here's the printing from their website when i put a deposit down along with the Purchase agreement this pages were attached to it as well. I honestly thing its a like @fwebster said its a lazy thing the owner of the new wave yach has to be in his 65+ years of age (not to offend anyone) lol but yeah i am gonna try to get $4000 refund back.

the first 30'+ boat I looked at when we decided to move up to a cruiser was a 2000 Chaparral listed near Atlanta, GA....the ad said it had twin Mercruiser 5.7L engines with Bravo III outdrives....the 5.7L was the larger engines offered in those boats that year.....that plus the Bravo III outdrives was what attracted me to the boat....I spoke to the owner a couple times by phone and set up a day for a test run....the Admiral and I drove about 4 hours on a Saturday to get to the boat....it was in decent shape overall so I was initially interested...then I looked at the throttles/shifters and noticed they were Volvo, not Mercruiser.....sure enough when we raised the engine hatch there sat twin Volvo 5.0L engines.....I asked the owner WTF?......he had no plausible answer so it was a typical bait and switch....we just turned around and got back in the car and drove home....I'm kind of glad the Admiral was with me because when i saw the Volvo drive train with smaller engines I felt my head starting to flush which for me rarely ends well....

Hi @CliffA That sounds like a typical craigslist bullsh*t scam. . glad you were able to catch that. In my case no matter what i am keeping this beauty and the fact this is a well known and very popular dealer in MA i think i will get some cash back. I reached out to them but the owner i was working with he is out on a sea trial and said he will check over paper work tomorrow. but as we all have seen the paper works states 6.2L Horizon.

i spoke to my lawyer, he said to take it easy and see if they'll offer anything them self if not we going after them. It is what it is. @Little Ducky

You love the boat but have no idea about the condition of the propulsion system. Big difference between open cooled 5.7 and a 6.2 Horizon, for your use in salt and for resale as well. I'd be testing that system real good, looking for flaws, before cutting the seller any slack. You already have a red flag with no water discharge that could be caused by several big dollar repair items.

It "could" be. I definitely understand why you are saying that. But... we're also looking at it on a computer screen... in a dark area... with a gray (and black) floor...

We all know the "real" way to tell... Taste it! :)

Yessir!

Looking at the pic again and it does look lighter the further away you get from the pump. Probably non-tox antifreeze.

You can tell a lot about a boat owner by looking in his bilge, I always say.

i don't think it looked that bad. . the spill out happened in mid February the picture below is from Oct. before she got winterized.
