Hey guys I have a 78 srv260 finally put it into the water pprt side engine went Into gear no problem but the starboard one won't even engage. Any thoughts I just had the trim pump lines off that side do you think it could be that lockout mechanism?? As always thanks for the input

Sounds to me like the shift cable may be stuck or it could be something worse, In any event I would disconnect the shift cable at the shift plate and see if the cable from the controller moves when not connected to the shift plate. If all is good there I would try to shift it with the levers on the shift plate and see if they are free. If all is good there you could have a frozen lower shift cable in which case the drive needs to come off.

Well just to get some closure on this thread I have a bad drive coupler on that engine so I'll be pulling the engine and drive soon

I just had my coupler replaced on my 1979 SRV 245 Sundancer. The engine was already out to replace the fuel tank.
It's almost a 40 year old both so I wasn't that upset both had to be replaced. Besides, it's a Classic!

Yea Dean to be honest the boat is brand new to me so it kind of gives me a little more knowledge toward the boat so if something happens on the water I have a better understanding how to get me home it's a great learning experience.

Not to mention I only paid a thousand for the entire boat because of that....engines run great outdrives are great cabin electrical is great only 650 hours on the engines and shes a beaitiful classic searay cant get those hull lines no more!!

Give consideration to replacing the oil pan and the starter while that motor is out.

Those are 2 difficult (the pan probably impossible) things to change with the motor in the boat.

I will be replacing oil pan gasket and the starter I would hate to put a new one in considering the prices already had to pay 490 for the coupler plus shipping wooooooooooow!!!

Where did you but that coupler? That sounds way too high. Do a google search, I'm seeing Sierra couplers for over a 100 dollars less.
While the drive is off, see how your shift cable is, would be an easy job now.

The couplers for his engines are unique to those engines and not used past 82. Just went through it myself about 8 months ago.

no listing for the 470 coupler but there is a listing for Ford motors and my old records list a Ford Maverick flywheel as a suitable replacement so SIE 18-2173 may fit the crankshaft pattern . That list is $387.44

I have a 1977 sda 240 with twin 470's and they run great (NOW) good to know about the coupler availability so I will be careful. The main trouble I've had is with the drives had to reseal and rebuild them and still not done. I have been doing alot of work to the appearance to get it back to the 1977 look and now it is only mechanical. Hoping to get it in the lake soon but am getting a bit tired of working on it. You got a good deal I paid 4000.00 for mine and now feel I got a bit of the shaft, but it will be fun once I get it in the water.
If you haven't done it yet I would take a good look at the bellows and make sure of their shape. Leaking bellows will sink your boat and are not that expensive to buy just a pain to install. You still have another thousand to spend yet.LOL
