my son is in the process of accepting a position with Spacex in the Cape Canaveral, FL area....he will be working as a 'Propulsion Engineer' on their 'Mars' project....

both the Admiral and I will be retired in the next 2-3 years and will likely consider moving ourselves and our 340DA down to that area after we retire...

so I was wondering if anyone familiar with the Cape Canaveral area can recommend decent marinas to dock the boat and boating areas that have plenty of waterside restaurants and other attractions accessible by boat....

its never too early to start planning....

thanks...

Come visit when your son begins he exciting career sending things into outer space. You will be near the Sea Ray Yacht factory and will have a list of marinas to chose from.....both on the ICW or in Port Canaveral, pro's and con's to both.
So instead of on-line homework, just come see for yourself, and time it around a SpaceX launch....you are going to like being around here!

Took the kids to Universal in Orlando for spring break. We spent a day at the Space Center and honestly it was amazing. Things have changed so much since the private sector has venture into space exploration. Kuddos to your son and good luck on your eventual move!

I am at HarborTown Marina just down 528 heading into Merritt Island. Just next door to the Sea Ray plant. Great little marina with a waterside bar and grill. It’s also supposed to be one of the safer marinas during hurricane season.

I know there are at least a couple other members there as well. Docks aren’t in perfect shape, but the company is fantastic. Drop in when you’re down and we can grab a bite at the marina.

Best,
Nic

thanks for all the input....my son has turned out to be a very bright guy....a true 'freak of nature' considering who his parents are.........he has been courting Spacex for over a year now and finally got in....we are very proud of him...

we are excited about the possibility of boating in FL.....if we stay in the rivers in that area it might not be too much different from inland lake boating like we do now.....but it will mean more maintenance to the boat due to brackish water and I will miss being under a covered slip.....but there is soooooo much more water and shore to explore....

I also keep my boat at Harbor Town and enjoy the convenience to my home (10 minutes away), the lagoons, and ocean access. Harbor Town is a hurricane hole; my boats have weathered two storms without damage so from first hand experience - recommended. Cocoa Village Marina is very nice but it sees the butt of the easterly storms. The village marina however has no haul-out or fuel facilities. There are also great marinas and slips in Port Canaveral but they require the boats to clear out of the water in a named storm bearing down on our area. I will say, however, that there is not much in larger boat accessible waterfront entertainment and restaurants in our area but the summertime 85 degree water can't be beat.
Congratulations on your son's success; I had an awesome 31 year career as a steely eyed rocket scientist and never regretted a bit of it.
