Westerbeke 4.5 BCG Shutting Down After 1 Hour

Sorry, a little late chiming in. The gas gennys are notorious for the electric fuel pump overheating and shuttling down. These are available at NAPA etc, usually around $30.00

The Final Chapter!

It was indeed the governor without doubt. Mike Sullivan did an excellent job rebuilding the part. There was a deep groove which had been cut in the shaft from an over tightened belt. I'm sure running with no oil didn't help. :smt021

Installed it on Friday the 29th and set the frequency which Mike explained how to do over the phone. Fired right up and ran perfectly for the next 12 hrs while on the hook at Sand Key.

Lesson Learned for $380. Change the governor oil every time you change the oil on the generator.

I was lucky to get out so cheap, especially with a factory Westerbeke governor and not one of the aftermarket governors I was considering for $700.

I must say though between this forum and Mike Sullivan I now have a pretty good understanding of how the unit works, what some problem areas might be and how to maintain the genny.

Thanks CSR!

I believe pressing the stop button will reset the genny once it's shut down from overspeed.
