Looking for a 450/460 DA with hydraulic swim platform

I thought there was a couple listed on this site that went very reasonable...? I could be mistaken.

You know what opinions are like but....

That gas 410 is 30+k too high. If it fits what you need then it’s your call but your going to lose your butt when it comes time to resale.

A buddy of mine just got a 450 for similar money but it took almost a year.

Just my opinion so don’t hate me but be patient and good things will come.

The asking price is right on the mark for a well cared for 410 with 8.1s with lift and cherry interior... $20k more for diesels. I have one and I have had 3 straight offers in the past two years higher than that. Now the 400 I might agree with.

I recently helped another CSR member find a 450. I don't intend to discourage you, but when looking at 20 year old boats, finding a week cared for example is really hard. I think this guy looked at 5 within reasonable freight or running distance and struck out because the condition as not as represented by the broker or the posted photos.

450's are wonderful boats and were easy to maintain, but you have to do the maintenance. I know….I have the boat you are looking for (it is not for sale) and most owners don't do what is required to keep their boats pristine. It costs a lot in terms of cash and work to keep an older boat in like-new condition and most owners don't or won't do it.

Both the 450 and 460 have cored decks. The hatches must be removed and rebedded before about year 7, the windlass cut out must be resin sealed if the windlass is ever removed for repair of service, The oval post light must be removed and resealed before year 10. The windshield mounting screws must be removed and resealed.

Both boat have cored hulls, the 450 hulls stay dry unless the boat has docking lights mounted below the rub rail or if there has been some physical damage to the hull somewhere. The 460 has its bilge vents cut into the hull below the rub rail and the opening is not resin sealed. The 450 hull vents are in solid glass above the rubs rail and they don't need any maintenance. The 460 vents need to be removed and resealed about every 5-6 years or rainwater will enter the cored structure around the hull vent.

The last point worth making is that 1/2 the boats we looked at we offered for sale with old photos and the insight inspection led to a disappointment and day of wasted effort and travel. Look for date stamps on photos or ask enough question about condition that you can verify that the broker has seen the boat and is accurately describing when he is trying to sell you.

Don't give up and expect this boat search to last many months. Be ready to react when a decent prospect comes on the market.

Good luck………...
Not to get off the subject but what is the oval post light you refer to. have done everything else you have listed to our 450 but I am a dummy on this. Thanks for all the info you share.

This boat has 7.4’s not 8.1s. There is a perfect boat for everyone and depending on use this could be a perfect boat but for very little more you can end up with a bigger boat and/or diesels.

If the op will accept an express cruiser instead of a sundancer it will open the search quite a bit as well.

Must admit my two prerequisites were either a bow thruster or the hydaulic platform. I've heard horror stories (not all true) about salt water and hydraulic platforms, and the bow thruster option was very attractive to a rookie owner of a 450.

Sorry......my mind works faster than my ability to type.

I am referring to the oval port (not "post") lights....i.e. 5 the oval windows on each side of the cabin. If they aren't leaking now; they are going to.

Guess what I am doing now Frank! Scraping the old gasket off is a pain but at least the new style mesh inserts are much easier to work with.

Your 41 EC is much more updated than the 45 DA. My big beef with the 45 is you can's stand up at the helm as the arch is too low.

As far as this boat, I am intimately familiar with the 40/41's in the 2000 MY range. I think this is slightly on the high side for an EC, especially without the cherry interior. But the boat looks very nice and it does have the hydraulic platform, which I think is a big plus. W/O the platform, a good price is about $110. I'd try to stay under $120K.

Also, I bet if you had the canvas re-threaded, if may still be good, but I'm guessing the threads and zippers are shot.

I was looking at post 21. I think you must have been referring to post 16. Where I would agree on price. Post 21 has the 8.1s. And the value looks right.

Lg111.

I think we are aligned. Sorry about the miscommunication.

I appreciate the feedback!
Our idea is to use this boat for the next 3-5 seasons. If it works great we will be happy, if not we will get something else.

I had never heard of re-threading the canvas. According to the current owner only the cockpit cover has ever been used, The other pieces including slant back canvas have never been installed or used. So, I hope the canvas can be serviceable for a few years.

LOL Thought I was the only one that happened to. Done all mine last year, Thanks !!

If you have the sloped or "tent" cover for the aft, you may want to consider looking into a full or "camper" (as i call it) cover. So much more usable space in the Fall or Winter with Isinglass all around.

Trouble is I don't believe the factory made a full cover - I had to have mine custom made but I can provide the contact information as she should still have all the specs.

The boat has the tent cover aft. I do like the camper style and believe it would be a great addition. What's the approximate cost for camper and hardware?
