Does anyone know where I can get the handheld unit and cord that is standard on 2005 DB? Just got out new to us boat and the hand unit’s cord s all taped up with painters tape!! You can barely hear anything through the speaker, so I’m not sure if the unit is bad (hence all the tape)or just the speaker. If it’s too expensive or much of a hassle we are considering replacing with a new Icom with a hailer.

Your VHF is probably a Northstar. They no longer manufacture it. I had the same problem and found a microphone brand new on ebay. It took quite a while to find. Other options by different manufactures Garmin etc are expensive. Good Luck

As stated above, more than likely a Northstar that are no longer made. Your only choices are to watch Ebay and find one or replace.

VHF radios are so inexpensive today and from the looks of your profile you boat in the pacific. Why chance safety gear - just drop in a new one - probably won't be that much more than an old mic cord.

That’s not exactly right. Many ‘05 420DBs came with Raymarine 240’s. I just had Raymarine replace my handset cord for $100. The replacement unit for the 240 retails for $600, $750 installed. As for the VHF speaker, if it works while receiving it’s fine, no need to replace. If it doesn’t I would check the connections at both ends. The speaker performance should not be affected by the condition of the handset or cord.

Well, it looks like we can replace but I'd like to keep the speaker and hopefully find another corded handheld radio that could plug into the same receptacle. Does anyone know if Icoms corded handheld is compatible to the factory installed receptical?

Thanks that is were I am looking also just have to get past my ocd and decide high or low!!! Decisions decisions..

I was given a phone number a few years ago for ordering replacement cords. Everyone had told me there was no chance to get them but I called Raymarine and they had direct replacements in stock. If I can find the number, I will post it.

From that picture it’s clear you have Raymarine electronics suite and your VHF handset mount below the dash appears to be identical to the mount for my Ray240VHF. If you look behind your access panel you will see the base unit to your VHF. The model number should be on top. The least of your worries is the receptacle where the handset plugs into. That will be provided with a new radio if you purchase one. If yours is a Ray240 you should call Raymarine’s 800 number on their website for service and you can arrange to mail the handset back to their US service center in NH for them to replace the cord. They may tell you to take it to an authorized repair center that’s local to you, but the effect will be the same...a new cord for your handset. PM me if you have any questions.

JoAna, is your VHF Raymarine? I had my hand held unit replaced by Raymarine about 4 years ago, I think it was about 150. Steve

Get yourself an MMSI number before you send it to Raymarine and have them program it in for you while they have the radio.
I sent them my Ray 240 as soon as I bought my boat and had them do that and go through the radio to make sure it all checked out.
They can be tough to get on the phone and they took longer than they told me it would but they appeared to have done a good job.

I'll add that a friend sent a 240 handset to Raymarine last year for a cord and PTT button replacement and they mentioned that supplies of 240 cords were getting low.
