Twin 5.0 Mercruiser
Looking to see if any sundeck owners can tell me what the actual weight of a 2016 240 sundeck with 6.2 in it including tandem axle sea ray trailer, gear and fuel etc. Has anyone went through a scale with their boat to get a true weight? The book has 4500lbs but was told that is with the smaller engine.

Looking to make a purchase but want to make sure our 2011 Suburban will pull it and don't have to go out any get another vehicle. We plan on trailering it.

Thanks

I can't tell ya the weight but I think you should be fine with the Suburban in this range. Do you have a weight distributing hitch and a break controller?

I hauled a brand new 260 Regal Openbow with my 1/2 ton GMC last year for a friend. Short distance but enough I could get a feel for it. Pulled like a dream...

Thanks... I do have brake control but don't have a weight distribution hitch. Being the trailer has surge brakes wouldn't that affect braking of the trailer?

Yeah, surge breaks don't require the controller. I would have thought you'd be getting into electric breaks at this size.

If you're going to tow quite a bit you might want to consider a proper hitch setup. I think you'll find an * in your manual regarding towing capacity with the OEM hitch. Meeting full tow capacity generally isn't possible (safely) with the hitches they sell the trucks with...

What is your suburban rated for? Where are you going to be towing it?

A 2011 1500 Suburban is rated for 8100 lbs. in 2 wheel drive and 8000 in 4WD. Figure a 1000 for your trailer and another 1000 for gear and gas. You should have plenty of towing reserve. The factory towing package will be enough for this load.

Thanks for everyone's help. Yes I am being told 8000lb towing from what the book and Internet say. I live north of Pgh, PA and plan on getting a slip in river but not keeping it in the water all the time. I plan on trailering to Lake Erie, shenango lake in Greenville PA and possibly Kinzua Reservoir in Allegheny national forest. Many places that I have t been able to go owning my 280 sea ray. Letting the kids experience different things rather than just tying off and rafting off in the river. Kids are 4 and 8 and can't sit still long enough.

The 6.2 weighs the same as the 5.0L. The trailer is roughly 1,200lbs. Add in your gas, batteries, gear and you have your towing weight. But, you're good to go with a Sub - been there, done that MANY times with different Subs/Yukons and various boats. FYI, "technically", you're supposed to subtract extra people and gear in the truck from your towing weight - at least that's how most manufacturer's state it. Either way - you're good.

yep sounds like you are good to go. I used to haul the older (Heavy 240) in the mountains with my Durango that was rated for 9500.

My 08 240 was 6200 with 1/4 tank of gas. Probably broken down it was 4700 for the boat, 1300 for the trailer, and some life jackets, coolers, skis, wakeboards, etc. 350 mag engine, B3 drive. That was on a scale.

Leardriver we had the older heavy style 240s

You should be fine. I have an 05 240 Sundeck that I tow around the Pgh area as well. You will be fine. I tow with a 2500 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi. I have the power to pull it. I moved my axles all the way to the rear for more tongue weight.

Trailblazer where do you keep your boat docked or do you, I'm up the mon in lock 3 pool

How do you like your 240? Any concerns?

I love the 240. I looked at many boats and I am so glad I found one. It takes rough water well. The bow never even comes close to taking on water when its rough. I have had little things to fix, but all in all its been a great boat. I trailer. I go everywhere - Rivers, Raystown, Yough, Deep Creek, Loyalhanna, and Cheat. When I hit the river I put in at the South Side

Sounds good. That is my intentions as well to hit every body of water possible so my family can experience it all and not be limited. We have met many good people on the river but want do more than rafting off every weekend in the same areas.
