my 260 has a Clarion system like most i suspect... sound was okay at best.

so decided to use some amps I had from my other boat, bought a JL 10" sub, pulled some wire, ran the existing speakers through an amp with high pass filter, dedicated JL amp for sub...

wow what a difference!!

Need video of music cranked and you guys dancing on the boat or it didn't happen. :p

will comply this weekend! going on the hook fri and sat night at Egmont Key!!

Thanks for posting
I have been researching doing the same with my 260.
May sound funny but we were half way through last season before we figured out what that recessed area was for.
I’d like to read more about how you hooked up amps.
Thanks

radscoot..

everyone is a critic but this is what I did..
ran 4ga from battery switch with 60amp breaker for + and - to the ground bus to distribution blocks...
4ga to the amps... 4ga to the sub..
used the RCA's from head to amps..
cut the existing spkr wire and ran cockpit speakers to amp, cabin speakers waiting for a small micro amp
mounted amps on a board behind the head unit

just received a 5 rocker switch board i am cutting in to the head board in cabin to control amp on/off so I can control which amp and speakers i wan on at once... also have a small fan to cut into head mount for some air controlled on one of the switches... switch 1: sub 2:main amp 3:front amp 4:rear speakers (not installed yet) 5: fan

will post more when complete...

Is that thing connecting the 2 red wires the breaker? I like the clean look of it. I ran a 100 amp breaker (blue water/ ignition protected) in the bilge to a junction post in my aft hanging locker & for now, hooked up a JL Audio 700/5 amp to run my 4 cockpit speakers & sub thru another 50 amp breaker. I plan on adding more amps off that post eventually.

When were burglarized they stole the head unit(x2), power amp, speakers etc (and a whole lot of other stuff), So when I went to put it back together I decided I wanted to change some things. I didn't like having 2 stereos, I used the existing wires that ran from the helm to lower 2 multi cd players for signal, to a power amp & volume control knob, I bought Clarions top of the line speakers and their 505 head with bluetooth, I was able to buy an adapter to use my 2 wired remotes plus the wireless remote that came with it. The sound quality was like night & day for me

10" JL subs are sweet, I have two of them on-deck powered by a dedicated JL M1000/1 amp. Gotta love the bass...:)

Yes, that is the breaker, have the same one on my boat, works like an in-line fuse, but it's a breaker instead.

yes breaker as stated above... all i need for what im doing...

finished the stereo dash with rockers to control the amp on/off and the little fan for some air...

added speakers i had off other boat.. my prototype speaker stand in one of the removed cup holders worked great!! plus can rotate to face beach!
