Anyone else hear about the Oakland coffee shop refusing to serve uniformed cops.

Their reason “we have a policy of asking police to leave for the physical and emotional safely of our customers and ourselves”

Politics aside. What a stupid business model

The next time that shop gets robbed, one can only hope the police take a wrong turn or three on the way to the call. In Europe and the mideast they have what they call no-go zones. Is that where we're heading?

The problem is politics are over taking the ability for some of us to make good decisions... Business or personal. Look at celebrities, talk show hosts... The NFL is another... They make statements that cause 50% of their supporters to boycott them... What is the point ?

Bobeast ... From my perspective in the mid west it seems the politicians and the actors I just mentioned are creating the same platform to create a boycott for your state. You guys have a tough battle going on over there.

I just hope we all figure out we are on the same team and start to accept another person's point of view without it going to the extreme... It sure feels like we have a way to go before this turns around unfortunately

Agreed. I used to be proud to say I was in CA. You know, that state where you were free to be you, live and let live, and all that. It's sad and ironic. If you still believe in those things, this state is no sanctuary.

I thought things were bad here in The People’s Republic of NY until I saw the nonsense going on in California.

I had one thought. Some states...ahem, had issues with refusing service to certain people with regards to certain beliefs...just sayin.

I guess it's now okay to refuse service to certain people based on whatever. So it all comes around. When a precedent is set, the downside is your opposition can use it as well.

We have now established a constant battle for the most victimized status.

(good luck figuring out who those are)

My personal belief is that people and even businesses should be free to be just as stupid as they wish to be. But that we should make them eat the consequences of their own stupidity.

Then let Darwin sort it all out.

In the city all stores welcomed cops hanging around it just lessened their chances of a robbery..

They'll be along shortly. They're having their morning frappuccino.

Didn’t they go after a baker somewhere a few years ago because he or she wouldn’t make a cake for a gay wedding based on religious beliefs?
I didn’t agree with the baker either, but it’s still a double standard.

The places I worked in the City there weren’t many places that we would get food or coffee from. Most guys brown bagged it.

You and me both JV. Also NEVER go through a drive thru hahahaha
Absolutely never ever get food or coffee from any place where you can’t actually see them make it and seal it in a container or wrap it in something.

How times have changed. A friend of my parents ran a hamburger joint that wasn't in the best neighborhood in town. Cops got free coffee 24/7 because the guys who might have thought about sticking the place up knew there was a constant flow of cops in and out of the restaurant.

He figured the small bit it cost him by giving them coffee he more than made up for in the meals they bought and the fact that he never got robbed the whole 20+ years he was in business in that part of town.

Now look at where we are.

Shakin' my head.

That is true. The case is now sitting in the Supreme Court and a decision is expected in June. Is anyone suing the coffee shop guy? No. So some belief systems are acceptable and some aren't I guess. And this baker may just wind up financially destroyed trying to defend the accusations against him that he is guilty of illegal discrimination. The hypocrisy of the left is startling.
