Folks with bulkhead mounted TV's - where do you sit to view?

Perhaps a silly question? I've been on the fence about adding a TV to my bulkhead for a while now. I even purchased one...and then returned it, convinced it would never get used.

Our kids are old enough now that I might choose to let them play some Wii or the like after a long day in the sun, bedtime-ish, perhaps allowing for a quiet drink with the wife before sunset. So the TV is back on my list of potential projects. But I got to thinking about the layout and started wondering where 2 kids, maybe 3, would have to sit to play a game or even watch a movie. I'd prefer not make the mid-cabin bed which means at least one kid is sitting on the floor?? Or looking over the head of the other if they sit front to back on the couch?

How do you folks do it? Are you viewing from the master berth mostly? One person viewing from the couch? Inquiring minds want to know. And thank you in advance for any thoughts!

I've seen one mounted above the dinette over the mid stateroom. Perfect place to watch from the aft facing dinette seat or the v-berth. I'm going to do this myself this spring.

Yes, that's the location I'm taking about. I, however, have the couch vs. the dinette. So the seating arrangement feels a bit less than ideal for viewing a TV on that bulkhead. I'm hoping to get some first hand feedback on how it works in real life...

No help here. We have one, bought the boat over a year ago now, have never used it. I agree, not sure where you would sit to watch it.

Can't help you with the bulkhead location, but my 330 has basically the same layout as your 340. I mounted a 19" LCD on a swing arm in the cabinet where the original TV was. Also a DVD player (remember those?). It's been used maybe once or twice. The swing arm allows it to be moved to be viewed from any/all angles. We found that we just don't watch TV when on the boat. We are either socializing while rafted up or outside on deck. But, we don't stay on the boat at the marina either (we have a summer place so we sleep on the boat only when at anchor)

I have a 95 330 with the dinette. my kids are 6 and 8. we were holed up on rainy days a couple of times and I still have the stock tv in the locker by the forward berth. they love curling up on the berth and watching. I was thinking about installing an automotive flip down on the overhead of the midberth where they sleep. I face similar situations with hanging with the wife while they chill before bed. im going to refit the stock location with a flatscreen from some suggestions I found on this site this summer (the raytube is done). ive sat at the dinette and just don't think that's someplace we would watch.

personally I do not like the TV mounted on the bulkhead wall on our boats....as stated I don't think the seating arrangements in the cabin are well suited to comfortably view a TV on the bulkhead wall...

I opted to install a 28" flat screen TV on the original turntable....we can easily view the TV from the couch in the cabin and the TV can still be pulled out from the wall and rotated to be seen from the V berth bed.....

A guy on my dock has one on the mirror in the very front of the v-berth. Really good spot. You can even see it when sitting on the dock.

This is the exact same thing we did on our 2000 340 DA. Perfect location for viewing from the dinette or while cooking, and then just pull it out and swivel to watch from the forward berth.

That's huge! I would have never imagined you could pull that off. I have a 17" or 19" flatscreen in that location as well. The swivel sucks but the TV works. It's not quite big enough for what I want to do (potentially games, wii, for 3). Perhaps I will take a look at replacing my existing flat screen with something bigger and more viewable, with a better swivel setup.

Very helpful comments above. This confirmed my suspicions of viewing challenges on the bulkhead mount. You guys are great. Thank you!

I purchased an under cabinet TV mount to use on our boat. I inverted it an mounted it to the original slide out swivel base. It works perfectly. The TV swivels and slides out so it is viewable from anywhere in the boat, and then slides back and locks in place just like the original old 13" tv/vcr that came with the boat. The most difficult part was positioning the new bracket exactly right so that when I slide the tray back into the pocket it would properly lock in place with the back of the new flat screen TV snug against the bolster.

My 400 EC came two OEM TV's, one in the V birth, and one in the salon. I've upgraded both, and added another in the cockpit.

We did the same as others in this thread ..installed a new 24 inch where the old TV used to be. It's a smart TV so we can stream netflix etc at marinas, and we use apple tv to stream content from our phones/ipads when on the hook. It's also on a swivel arm so it can be pulled out and rotated in any direction. We can sit/lay on the master berth, and others on the couch/mid berth while viewing comfortably np. We can also pull it into the master berth and close the curtain while our son is sleeping in the aft berth. Although we haven't done that yet, but it's an option. (We're usually up top when he's sleeping.) :)
