ISO good used Mercury Smartcraft 79-888923-005 (I believe this is the Smartcraft 5000). The screen is cracked on mine and the light doesn’t work rendering it useless at night. Is it possible to replace the screen and the light. It otherwise works great. I appreciate any thoughts.

Good luck with your search, you may be better off updating to a vessel view. SmartCraft sc5000 used displays go for 300-600 depending on “how used “ they are. And then it may not last too long. I’m on my second screen, next time it all comes out.

I'm in a similar situation with a new (to me!) 340 Sundancer with a faded Smartcraft vessel view. I locate a repair facility in my area and he advised that repair if these units is iffy at best!! I'm also looking for a good used unit, or thoughts on replacing the system. Let me know what you find or current thoughts and plans!!

You are on your second screen? So the screen itself is replaceable? Is that something you had done or were you able to replace the screen yourself?

It sounds like everybody is going to the Vessel View 7 but that is an $1800.00 plus upgrade. Not in my budget this year. My scratched screen Andy no lights are starting to grow on me

One alternative, purchase the vessel view mobile harness (275$, supports 1-4 engines), plugs into the smartcraft harness under the helm and with any phone or tablet connected via Bluetooth, you can get all the engine data displayed via Mercruiser’s free app. I might end up doing this, then I can sell my SC5000 to someone else! The app is okay, for instance, they did not take the time to program the app to display correctly when rotated on an iPad, so you would have to have the iPad in portrait mode all the time.
You might need to replace the 4 port smartcraft box with a 6 port, I think those are in the 50-100$ range.
Plus, when you upgrade your phone or tablet, you get a new smartcraft display for free!

I go back in forth with this a lot on my boat. I still have a NorthStar 6000i plotter and SystemView 5000 display and I can't decide if it makes more sense to just buy the SmartCraft-NMEA2000 gateway and use a new MFD/plotter to display engine data or actually spring for a new plotter and VV display with the idea you get some enhanced information like trouble codes.

The problem with VV7 is it's about as expensive (and feature packed) as an actual plotter (I think they're really Simrad Evo2 hardware) but doesn't work as a true second plotter screen. It seemed to make more functional sense to spend the money on two MFDs and the Smartcraft-NMEA2000 gateway, although I think the best of all worlds was VV4 (which provides NMEA2000 gateway capability) plus two MFDs. You kept the VV display benefits, got NMEA2k and dual plotter screens.
