I need a new fuel tank, the only place I found is moeller marine part number ft2219-1. according to moeller this is an OEM part and I cannot buy it through there retailers. I tried to contact 2 of my local sea ray dealers In the Houston area and they were less than helpful. The problem is there is angle to the tank bottom and getting an aftermarket tank to fit the footprint would lose about half capacity of the tank. any help with locating an or tank would be much appreciated. I have a 2000 Sea Ray 180BR

Thanks for your time!!

Do you have some pictures of where the tank is in your boat? There are some custom fab shops in the Seabrook area.

I’m also in Houston and willing to help find you a source.

Ocean Link lists one on their website. 401-683-4439

It's plastic...why can't you get it repaired ?

I had to have a new plastic fuel tank made by Moeller for a previous boat (don't ask why :()....it was out of production but they will still make the tank if they have the mold....it was a 48 gallon tank and cost me $600.....you will have to go through a Sea Ray dealer to have this done if you go this route....

Moeller uses a type of plastic that supposedly cannot be repaired easily and reliably...

When you say your local Sea Ray dealers were less than helpful, what do you mean? Did they take your order? Did they refuse to order your tank from the OEM vendor? There are usually ways around this situation..............I can usually help.

I know why ;)

It seems like plastic welding has started to become much more popular now a days. But then repairing a fuel tank is not the same as repairing a water tank... there's a little more risk involved. If Moeller said it's available, it should be a simple thing to get from your dealer? Did you have a chance to check into what Scoff mentioned? Maybe not, though - I see you just posted about this last night.

We had a 66 gallon Aluminum tank made locally for a 22’ Eastern to replace 2 smaller plastic tanks about 18 months ago.
The local fabricator charged $8.00 per gallon of capacity with a $200.00 minimum. The price included all necessary fittings and sender.
Your boat probably has a much smaller tank so it may pay to get an estimate from a local fabricator.
Your 3.0 powered 18’ Bowrider is probably laid out similarly to the same powered 18’ Maxum Bowrider my kids use. If so, the motor will have to come out to replace the tank.
I think my kids tank is 18 gallons.
It’s probably not worth the risk to attempt to repair a plastic tank that small.

I was able to order it from ocean link who in turn orders directly from moeller.

the 2 plastic welders I took it to gave it try but they said it is special blend of plastic and I guess they don't have the proper plastic rods to match the particular crosslink poly made by moeller.

The marine max just didn't want or care about going through the hassle. they actually have to go through sea ray then sea ray has to go through moeller to get the tank.

Thanks for all the replies.

For those Curious this is tank I had to order notice the angle on the bottom of the tank.

I see that you have a tank on order, but I have found that Sea Ray owns the molds for the special OEM tanks. Moeller will sell the tanks to any Sea Ray dealer…….They are in the business of making and selling tanks. The dealer does not have to place the order thru Sea Ray, so if it comes up again, all you need to do is to find a parts guy at a dealership who wants to do his job and sell parts. That part, I can help with since our dealer here in Florida frequently orders and drop ships parts for long distance customers.
