I'm in the process of installing some woven vinyl in the cockpit. I've been considering some Sea Dek type material on the swim platform, but the woven vinyl installer was obviously pushing his product. Anyone done this? It's completely waterproof, cheaper, but I'd have to install snaps. Thoughts?

I have read (here on CSR) where some of these woven vinyls are very hot on the feet when used on the swim platform. I would check that out. There are reasons Sea Deck costs what it does...

I’m on my 2nd boat w LWV in Florida. Not hot at all in the sun. Nothing like plasdeck or similar......I’m also debating on a swimdeck install, I do have enough leftover material for it.

I personally wouldn't use it on the swim platform. Would go for a permanent material like SeaDEk which wouldn't move and looks more aesthetically pleasing. Just my opinion.

I have infinity on bridge, cockpit and steps. I chose not to put it on platform. Personally I think platform is best left factory natural as I consider it part of the hull not part of the living space. Plus I boat in waters that turn platform brown. Constantly cleaning that water staining off the fiberglass platform. Also I have a dingy on there and so it's covered up.

Thanks guys - appreciate the feedback. So some say it's hot and some say it's not. I'm not too concerned about that part because I have the 2 level platform that came on the 400s and the lower one will pretty much always be wet. I realize I could go without snaps in the cockpit, but I will have to go with snaps on the swim platform. At least the lower one. I do like the look of Sea Dek, but this stuff looks pretty good too and I would think the continuity from swim platform to cockpit would look nice with the same material. One small thing I'm concerned about is the installers ability to match every curve perfectly. I think that'll be easier with the templating process of Sea Dek, but not as much with the "cut on location" process of woven vinyl. I'm still undecided. Any other thoughts?

And yes, I'm using Rug Pilot.

Infinity woven pvc does get a bit hot in the sun. We splash water on it and it stays cool for a long time. Swimplatform always looks clean.
Here are a few I have done:

Thanks for the those pics. I think it could look good, but I'll have to get it to pass the wife test. We'll see where she lands.

All snapped...first pic and last pic were just laid on platform for a quick pic, pre-snap install.

I have it on my platform and love it. Infinity woven vinyl. It doesn't get too hot for us...hasn't been an issue. Glued down, no snaps. Two seasons in, so far, so good.

I have Infinity woven in the boat and SeaDek on the swimplatform. The Infinity gets much hotter then SeaDek but more importantly is quite slippery when wet. Not a good combo on a swim platform. (think jumping into the boat from the dock) The Infinity is a good choice for a carpet replacement in the cockpit or interior, just not where you are thinking. My 2 cents....

Interesting. That hasn’t been my experience at all. Weird.

I don't have the slippery problem at all either, John. But I have the heavily textured wicker weave, not the smooth flat version. I can't speak for heat as my flooring is under shade most all the time. Plus I have boat shoes on all the time. I am rarely barefoot.

Quint4 did mine. We worked together to get a perfect fit. Couldn't be happier. I do have to say though..It gets hot sitting out in the sun. Sometimes I can't walk on it without spraying some water down. It does hold some water too, but dries out quick in the heat. I personally wouldn't do the swim platform. Other than that I love it and would do it again if I had to. I get many compliments also.

Wow. Those are some complex shapes! It's nice that your install guy was willing to get it that precise for you. I'm still undecided. I understand the pros and cons, but I think the largest thing that holds me back from Sea Dek is the glue. Anyone have any experience with cleaning it up and either reapplying or permanently removing?

+1
I have the Infinity vinyl in my cockpit and I love it. It does get hot at times but my main concern on the swim platform would be when it is wet. It does get very slippery when wet. Not really when you are wearing shoes/sandals, but when you are walking with bare feet. For this reason alone, I have not had it installed on my swim platform. I do have the SeaDek on my 21SPX. It does not get as hot in the sun and more importantly, it does not get slippery.
