'New' 1998 SR 330 DA questions...

Thanx Todd, I appreciate that and the community. All of you are very friendly, courteous, helpful and obviously loves their boats. I didn't know I would be coming into a family. Awesome...

Thanx Mike & Mila, I'll be down on the Gulf next weekend 9-11 Feb, and will look for all of that as well as take pics to post to make sure I get it right. I do have a Westerbeke 4.5, so I guess I'll be looking for 4 strainers & seacocks. It still seems pretty strange to me that it has 2 easy access quick connects, but I have to access the engine compartment anyways. Your 340 is sweet! Is that snow I see? We don't have that funny stuff in Florida...

:)

Tom, thanx as well. They did do a great job restoring this 20-year old gem. Send a pic of you 410...

Thanks! It is indeed snow. That's boating in British Columbia in December for you! I used to live down in Orlando in the 90's ...went to school there and worked at Disney. Some fun times, and I know the weather well! Don't miss that summer humidity, but do miss the nice winters! :)

I'm from Miami, but retired from the Air Force couple years ago in Alabama, so we've been diving and fishing in Pensacola and Panama City areas. We got snow twice this year, so stop throwing that stuff so far south...

I agree that they did a wonderful job on the interior. We are in Pensacola, so might see you around.

Hello shipmates, we're back down in Pcola this weekend and I took lots of pics in the engine compartment. I found 5 Seacocks and I traced the quick connect water hose lines to a junction on both engines. The pics show where the lines go. The house lines are the clear braided lines in the pics (well, they used to be clear I'm sure). Any guesses?

Its the clear/white line connected to the blue line. So a previous owner installed the quick connects and this is where they lead. Same setup on both engines/ports

That is a manifold that looks to have 4 lines coming off it to flush the raw water circuit in various locations. The only one I see in the pic is the third one from the right is connected to your manifold. So you are flushing your manifolds. I suspect you have only anti freeze in your engine block. If so I can see why the PO installed the system. I suspect you are flushing 1. Heat Exchanger, 2. right manifold, 3. left manifold, 4. oil cooler and transmission cooler which is why you have 4 take offs on the manifold.

Did they tell you to just run the hose to flush, no need to start the motor right? That would make sense. The water flushes and runs out the side exhaust dis-charge..

Hello again, I bought the boat from a boat dealer who got it from an auction, so I do not know who the PO is and the folks I bought it from said they had never seen that on the 330 and couldn't tell me how that flush system works.

It is indeed a closed cooling system with only anti freeze flowing thru the engine blocks. I was told the raw water just goes thru the heat exchangers and maybe other components the system uses to cool the closed cooling anti freeze.

What I know: closed cooling system fitted with 2 fresh water flush hose connections to flush the components that use the raw water.

What I don't know: do I just turn on the hose and let it run for 10 minutes? Do I close the sea cock and run the engines while running the hose?

I know there's a concern with hydrolock and that's why I want to be sure, but it still wouldn't make much sense to me to install this flush system, then still have to open the hatch and turn the seacocks off to use this system. Why would a PO go thru the trouble to install this if you still have to go thru essentially the same effort to flush the raw water components without it? The only difference in that case would be where you hook up the hoses and that not much bang for the buck if ya know what I mean? I would think the only reason to install this is to eliminate the need to open the engine compartment to climb down and close then reopen the Seacocks?

I hooked up the hose on the rear connect, turned on the hose and heard the water coming into the system for the starboard engine components, so now I at least know what quick connect goes to what motor. I let the hose run for about 5 minutes and did not see any water coming out of the exit port so I got a little nervous and turned it off. I don't think I ran the hose long enough as it still sounded like it was still filling the system, but my uncertainty prevented me from testing the process.
Here's a pic of the other side...
