I have an open injector alarm on my smart engine monitor (2005 Searay 390 MY with twin 8.1 Mercs). I had it checked 6 months ago and the mechanic found nothing wrong and alarm went away. Today, it is back. It does the 2 beeps/min unless I run up over 3000rpm then it seems to beep rapidly. One shop I spoke with says I will need all new injectors and it is a large, expensive job. Not what I prefer to hear. Any ideas? Could it just be sticking and I can kick it :O) Can it be a loose wire or is it always bad?
Thanks,
Dan

the injectors are standard GM items and can be sent out for service. Depending on the application you loosen and remove the top rails ,disconnect the injector plugs and pull the injectors out.

Okay, now I can only rev both engines to 3600 rpm while in neutral before I get a solid tone alarm but the injector alarm is gone???

Check the specs or a service manual for your engine - you may very well have an overspeed in neutral safety feature.

Do not run the engine that high in neutral.
If you are handy you can change all 8 injectors for $400 total yourself by buying the delco injector directly, not from Merc. The exact set of 8 from Merc is $2400.

You're probably a victim of the CF3 paint issue. Don't do your injectors until you have scoped out the entire fuel system or you may have to do them twice.

I did wonder if there was a neutral overspeed...now I know. I was getting an alarm while cruising at 3200 so was trying to replicate but did not think it would be a different cause. This afternoon, I discovered the port intake impeller was shot so perhaps that is the cause of my alarm at cruise???

Could very well be. You should probably have the codes read, rather than guessing at things. Check the chart for Merc warning horns and compare to exact rate/repeat rate that you heard - but keep in mind that the same rate/repeat rate can be used for multiple things. BUT, if the impeller is shot, that needs to be addressed (check housing for wear) anyways. Might as well do the stbd while you're at it.
