Worried about ice in Rock Hall Harbor

This is my first time leaving my boat in the water for winter. The marina has blubbers but i am still nervous with these temps and the amount of ice in the bay already. How worried should i be? I can't get down until the end of the month but marina staff walks the docks daily. I plan on going to the Baltimore boat show and then going to check on the boat.
 
I live locally and share your concern. If your boat was winterized properly and covered, you have little to worry about. Rock Hall harbor is fairly protected and while it will freeze up, the use of the bubblers help prevent the boat from becoming one with the ice. Major pieces of ice are a concern, however the harbor is pretty protected from this. Still a good idea to personally check on your boat.

I agree with Bill, as long as you winterized it she should be just fine with the cold temps predicted. Does the marina have bubblers to protect the piers or to also protect the boats in the slips. You said they have folks checking on things so I suspect they try to keep ice out of the slips.

I think the predicted temps are to last until Tuesday of next week. So the ice while it will form, shouldn't stick around long and get thicker. It's going to be close to 50 by next Tuesday! Spring is right around the corner... LOL

Thanks for the positive outlook. I'm a "glass half empty" kind of guy. I winterized it my self and also put a bilge heater in the ER so i guess i shouldn't be worried. I have only been in North Point Marina since the beginning of November. Been in south Jersey for the last 30 years and only had ice in the bay twice, i guess because of the higher salinity. Although the one time the ice damned up against my dock and pulled out my pilings. That people at the marina seem to be really on top of things and i am sure they will do their best to make sure nothing bad will happen. See, the glass is almost half full now.
 
I’m much further north than you and several larger boats on my canal always stay in for the winter and come out for a short haul in the spring.
They winterize, shrinkwrap, and use bubblers every year. I’ve never heard of any of them having a problem.
The canals are relatively shallow and freeze over.
The one other thing they do is make sure to double up on well secured lines because the shrinkwrap acts like a big sail in the wind.

Just for a different perspective... here's how they do it in the little lobstering town where we vacation in Maine... I think you'll be OK :)

Yes - those footsteps are across the water! No tender needed to get to your boat!
 
We are at Mears in Kent Narrows and also frozen in but the ice eaters are on. They supply their own on the back and I have my own on the front plus a back up for sale if needed.
There is a proper way to place these off the bow if possible.
