I have heard about this before. Someone on this forum had that issue. Search (use search feature) thoroughly on this forum. I don't think it was a new 330, but it did come from the same area of the boat. I'm sure it has something to do with the construction process. Probably the end of a fiberglass panel, such as one that it used to make the head, is flexing and rubbing against another fiberglass panel such as the dash board/forward deck (where they fit together like a "T").

This is not normal.

By the way, check for the obvious - all doors, cabinets, panels, closed and latched tightly without any play. Nothing heavy/hard standing up in a cabinet that can bang against this inside walls. Our transom door will make that sound if we latch it open while underway. The noise reflects off of the dash and sounds like it's coming from in front. Make sure the companionway door is fully closed and latched and that it doesn't have enough play to bang back and forth..............................

I noticed a noise that was coming from the bathroom area also during the week, I don’t know if I would call it "cracking" but it turned out to be the fresh water fill cap not tightened down. It's right outside the bathroom window on my boat???
Just a thought..

We have not noticed this with our '08, 330 thus far. Can you provide a few more details. Was this heard only once, or was it a repetitive sound? What speed was the boat travelling at the time? What is the approximate wave height you were running in?

We will keep an "ear" open on ours. Good Luck.

approx 20mph, 15knot winds, wave height was .5 m plus but have heard it even in calmer times when cuting into waves

I was just playing... Your name... Mike Spies... Spying is supposed to be a secret business...

I'll just stop posting after two martini lunches. :smt021

I'll keep an ear open on our 08/330 and advise if I hear anything similar. I appreciate your frustration. This is one of those issues that can drive you crazy trying to find it.

Being our first cruiser, I am very impressed with how solid these run considering all of the components that could rattle, shake and roll.

Good luck in nailing this one down.

Between you and I, my real name is Hector McGillacutty. I use Mike Spies on-line only.

Has anyone figured thus out! Has anyone contacted the Sea Ray manufacturer? It's not the sliding door to the cabin. I have a 2007 340 Sundancer with the exact same LOUD cracking sound coming from the port side dash in rough waters hitting the port side hull. No issues with rough water hitting starboard side.PLS call if you have any info. 425-269-8235 thank you. Steve

In the time I work I did failure analyses on various structure. I never did one on a boat but did on fiberglass tanks. It is very difficult to find cracks in fiberglass if individual strands break you normally will not see them. If a large amount of strands fail you may see a slight white line, time for repair. If you have visible broken fiberglass on the surface time to remove from service and repair.

I have a 2007 340 Sundancer with the same loud cracking noise that comes across the port side dashboard. It is disturbing and not normal. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Do you have the soft top option installed? On my 340, the cracking noise was from the arch. You could see the gel coat cracking in the radius, basically the weight of the soft top was causing the arch to flex and separate. I had it beefed up to remedy the situation.

Thank you for responding. I am not sure what the "soft top" option is. Were you hearing the exact same cracking noise coming from the port side dash area? If so, as many details as you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I am committed to fixing this problem so I can enjoy this boat...even in rougher seas. Long term fitness for my boat is also a key concern

Hey Northern Post - Thanks for replying. Many Sea Ray owners have experienced this problem. I will look for signs of stress and hope to hear from other owners who have found solutions.

The soft top option is the forward canvas (Bimini) solely supported by the arch, with no support poles going to the windshield frame. The noise I heard was as you described but came from over my right shoulder, or in other words, from the arch.

Got it. I do have the after-market larger aluminum tubing for my bimini. I will watch for the noise you are describing. The noise on my boat is is definitely coming from mid-forward port side.
