Greetings... I was hoping I may find some insight from fellow Searay owners with regard to a small leak in the engine room of my 1996 SeaRay Express Bridge 440. In between the two engines there is a 3 inch raised platform that extends Aft. In forward section of this platform I sprung a leak. It is a very small squirter with some pressure. I had a diver go down and check out the hull with no visable clues from there. I'm about to haul it out but most are still scratching their heads? Any ideas for me? Thank you in advance.

Pictures would help immensely.

dripless shaft seals

Unlikely. He is talking about the front of the raised platform between the engines. We definitely need a few pictures to help him sort it out.

To have that platform leak means the water is coming through the stringers or underneath. I would drill an inspection hole in the platform to see what it going on in there. Start with a quarter inch bit just in case there is a problem under the boat.

I patched it with some clay patch and it’s holding. But....

You are going to have to an drill an inspection hole in the top of the platform and see what is going on in there. I would expect to find it full of water. What I have done is drill a 3" or 4" hole with a hole saw and then pump the water out with a hand pump or small bilge pump. Once the water is out....you have a much better view of finding out where it might be coming from.

I'm speculating that you may have a problem with a nearby thru hull fitting that is leaking in the hull (since the leak is above the water next to it and appears to have pressure behind it).

Once you solve it, cover the hole with a West Marine inspection plate cover.

When you access the water, check to see if it is salty or fresh water...
