340 SUNDANCER THREAD

hello all,
about 6 months ago i bought a 1999 310 with the 5.7 horizons and centek 1601484 mufflers.
when i just cruise at about 1500 or so rpm's for a while my port motor just shuts off for no apparent reason. if i let it sit for a while it will restart as if nothing happened. so....
the other day i had to go rescue my brother in law who was stuck with no steering. coming back the motor shut off. i was trying to start it, pressing the start button, moving the throttle lever up and down a little and BOOM !!!!! my muffler literally blew up. the bottom section of the muffler blew up.
questions:
will backpressure cause this to happen?
backfire? even if it did backfire i would assume the pressure should still be able to escape and not blow up the muffler?
can these mufflers be repaired?
anyone know where i could find a used one before i have to break down and spend 600-700 on a new one?
thanks in advance for any insight

Hello all, I have a question regarding the cockpit enclosure. I am looking at a 2007 340 DA but I dont like the fact that the enclosure is on a 45 degree angle limiting head room etc.

I like what I have on my 260 DA, camper enclosure with good headroom.

Is the conversion custom or I am able to do thru SeaRay? approximate cost?

I know is available as Ive seen few of your DAers with it...

Thanks in advance!

It's definitely available. If you keep your existing front and bimini sections you're probably in the $5k range for a camper back. I had it quoted by several companies and all where in this ballpark. Not available thru Sea Ray. Gotta call someone local.

i had new canvas made a couple years ago....here is a pic to give you an idea what it looks like although my boat is older than yours....maybe you will get some ideas on what you want for your boat from the pic....

CSR member Quint4 does custom canvas; might have patterns already to make it easier to work long distance.

Well, the culprit was indeed the Circuit board. However, the mfg, wasn't much help. No schematics available and no replacements. So, Dug out my electronics repair experience from years past and determined that 4 transistors were shorted. Went to Amazon and ordered (minimum 50 pcs.) So I now have 46 extra transistors and a perfectly working fresh water level display. (total investment, $6.00) If anyone else needs help with this particular system. Message me. I'd be happy to send you parts or repair it for you.

Fresh water gauge in our 2000 340DA is the same way. It appears to read full all the time until it gets to about 1/4, then the indicator lights begin to show a change. Very inaccurate. Speakrdude, I'm curious to see the results of your investigation

On my 340 I have what you call the "45 degree angle enclosure". Personally, I don't like the total camper enclosure because, except when it is raining, I like to cruise with the top off and the back open and enjoy he open air feeling. But that's me.

New to this group, and new owner of 2006 340. I am really excited. Question - I am looking at adding WiFi and 4gLTE to the boat. Has anyone had experience with: (really looking at The Wirie because it has both hotspot wifi and 4gLTE combined and managed, but pricey) any suggestions? pros/cons?

We have a 2000 340. Wondering if anyone knows the safe or max recommended weight limit for the swim platform. I am in the market for a new dinghy and am looking at an 11' inflatable, aluminum hulled boat with fiberglass inserted seating, helm, remote steering station, etc. Would want to mount it on a Hurley H30+ davit system. Total weight of the dinghy with motor and gear and Hurley system is approx. 475-500#. I believe this would be fine on our platform, but because the Hurley davit system mounts on the outer edge of the platform I am somewhat concerned about that concentrated weight load and the moment arm it will put on the bolted platform to hull connection of our 340.

I don't know what the total weight is on my combination, but I have a 9'6" Highfield 290 RIB, with a Merc 6HP 4 stroke that I carry on a set of Nautley davits on my 2002 340DA. I've bounced around in some rough conditions with that configuration and haven't experienced any problems.

I believe the swim platform holding the weight is not your problem... Getting on plane will be what will bother you... We have a Hurley traditional davit with a 100 lb dinghy and a 2 HP Honda, and I can feel the weight when I go on plane... I would not recommend putting 500 lbs on you platform if you plan on having more that two people on your boat...

This makes sense to me.

We currently have a smaller dinghy, but it has a total weight (boat and motor, etc) of about 200lbs. it is on weaver davits and sits on its side on the platform and the boat planes fine. But, with that said, we are only on plane about 5-10% of the time, with the rest being slow cruise from 5-12 knots. If the weight of the new dinghy did become a problem we might try towing it, but I am not a fan of towing a dinghy at any speed over about 13 knots. In that case, my first mate would jump in the dinghy and drive it while I drive our 340 for those short periods.

So I know a few have replaced the sub, or installed a sub in the factory location (under helm seat facing the wet bar)..

Did you guys use free air subs, or a sub made for a box and hope the seat its self worked ok... going to install a sub there and in debate

I used a sub made for a box and it sounds nice.....I store things like extra life jackets under the helm seat so they act like damping material and take up some of the extra space to make the space smaller overall for a better fit to the sub ....the helm seat is open all the way to behind the captain's seat so I believe that space acts like a ported enclosure.....

I used the 10" JL designed for Free Air. It sounds great. Also have 2 of the 8" in my 230br. Big difference over the previous ones that weren't designed to be free air.
