2017 Season Picture and Video thread

Man that sucks.

Always a fear of mine too. My marina is at the end of a canal that has one huge waterfall and a dozen others flowing into it.

Heavy rains and wind frequently make the water level rise and fall dramatically.

How’s your insurance?

I have insurance and this is due to wind damage, I'm sure its covered but the deductible is high so my son and i already removed the swim platform and I'm pretty handy and already have fiberglass and resin so its going to be a winter project that shouldn't take too long, what helps is I have good friend that owns a body collision shop near me and he's letting me use the facilities to do the work in.....yes heated! Going to go over the whole platform and repair chips and redo the non-skid on the surface! if the non-skid turns out good, my plan is to do the cockpit and gunwale in spring when all the other Yachts are out of storage. Happy Boating

a good friend of mines' family has a cottage on the shore of lake Ontario in western ny. there has been devastating flooding due to the lack of water management this year. i know there are class action suits out there by property and municipalities.... if i were you , i would ask around about that and possibly get a claim involved. sounds like your situation was partly due to the abnormally high water level.

The water level in my area was pretty consistent except for this one day, the wind was blowing 50 MPH inland towards our marina and the water level went up about two feet and...causing the swim platform to snag the docks. I can make a claim but deductible is too high for the amount of damage. As you know making a claim only increases the premiums and I don't want to give the insurance company to have an excuse to raise it. Happy Boating

We took the kids(my daughter/grandkids) out of school for the Total Lunar Eclipse. These were taken on Morse Lake which is close to Indianapolis Indiana. The picture of the sun was taken at the moment of totality for Indianapolis.

Step son had the idea of making his own glasses. He took 4 strips of the darkest car window tint and put them on the cardboard. This picture was taken with my Digital Nikon 7000 while aiming thru the strips of window tint.

For the last 6 years we have taken our camper and boat to Muskegon State Park for 11 nights. This year the water on the big lake was calm enough for us to take her out 9 days.

This year the water temperature was not conducive to swimming. Heck, is was barely warm enough to wade in. 60 degrees most of the time. We were able to swim in Muskegon Lake but it was not enjoyable.

Doesn't get any better than what these pictures say-family strong!

Every year I try to make a compilation of the summer, and every year i say maybe it will include some non-boating videos. This was not the year lol

Anyways, check it out - Boating out of Rochester, NY. Footage in the video is from Irondequoit Bay, Lake Ontario, Genesee River, Sodus Bay, and Cobourg, Ontario.

that parting aerial shot should be submitted to one of those boat show videos at the searay booth! nice.
ever make it into oak orchard? good friend is a big racing sailor out of there.

Thanks. Not on this boat but we've trailered a smaller 18' we had for a while. Cool place and good fishing

Great video Strecker!! I wish I could make one like that but my summer videos will consist of mostly kids sports now with a cameo or two of the boat! Still has me looking forward to next summer though. Nice job!

Just yesterday, not even 24 hours ago, tied to the carrier's dock at a remote island for lunch where we swim/overnight at summer.

Steve, just curious because I've never had a boat shrink wrapped--do you leave the slant back canvas on or remove it? Are there advantages to leaving it on or removing it prior to shrink wrapping?

no , the crew will remove the canvas and leave me a little zipper access door, I believe they just collapse and fold back the top canvas on the bows. I plan on taking the isinglass home to work on over the winter. at my marina, the yard offers a package that includes everything soup to nuts for winterizing / wrapping and launching. its really not bad considering the cost and time I would need to do the same.

Fun thread, I love boat videos and pics. Here is a video I just finished with footage from Summer 2017. I am a musician and did the soundtrack.

My annual last place finish in this years Beaufort Light up the Night boat parade.
