460 DA Owners Thread

Good evening.....I am going to change my canvas on my 1999 460. The current canvas is nice and was extended from the factory original but it still does not allow us to use the back bench seat comfortably when the back piece is installed. Our guests (or us) have to slouch down in the seat so we are not resting our heads on the back glass.

The new extension will allow for it to be a "camper back" (?). A bit more vertical back glass and no slouching to sit in the back bench.

Has anyone had their canvas modified on this year's model that I could get some pictures of? I would like to see how your canvas fabricator created the side pieces as well as where they placed the support poles. I trust my canvas guy implicitly but would like to see other examples of 460's. If anyone has modified their canvas I would love to hear from you and see some pics if available.
Thanks
Bill
Bill, I own a 2003 460. I have a friend who just bought an '03 4600 with a camper back and he is looking to sell it. It may be plug and play for you. Let me know if you are interested and I will reach out to him.

So This is happening right now on our winterized 2001 460 Sundancer .. My husband John jjcllc328 is doing all the work himself .... She's getting a new wood vinyl floor and Corinthinan marine carpet over our plastic synthetic cockpit flooring .. With two huskies on the boat almost daily..the plastic faux teak floor has been getting very scratched up... It was down when we bought the boat but I'd never recommend it with larger dogs and their nails ... My husband jjcllc328 did the template for Corinthian marine .. We went wall to wall and also wanted to cover the whole existing flooring underneath .. Will update with more pictures as we lay out the carpet... and finish the wood vinyl flooring ..

Thanks for thinking of me...We just purchased ours late August of 2016, so we are still in "love" with it. We had more boat time this summer than any summer in past years because of it.

We had ours done but we have a hardtop...We absolutely love having one....We used it all the time... Had the pieces made so they All roll up instead of having to remove them all when we left our dock on a hot day... We also had screens built in to allow them all to stay down when we want less Wind/Air on a chilly day, or.... if its too buggy.... I came across this.. Maybe these pictures will help... scroll through all the pictures to see the rest....Hope this helps....

Thank you! I saw that boat last winter and it gave me the idea to add the liquor dispenser. :) These are much better pics of the canvas and it helped me out. Thanks again!

Bill, I meant that my friend is selling the camper back parts from his boat: stainless frame, canvas, etc. He loves his 460! He is not selling that! Let me know if you are interested.

Does anyone with a 460 know of a taller fridge that will fit if I removed the TV compartment. I've seen pictures of the deeper fridge where the cabinet doors are removed. I like that too. But any taller?

Sure. You can go all the way to the top. The issue is the width and how to trim it out and make it look good. It’s on my 2018/19 list for sure.

I've read y'all talk about all the different brands that will fit and I have the numbers written down. Just wondering if anyone had the numbers on a taller one. Does anyone know of a marine appliance store that actually knows boats?

I’m actually in the appliance business so it’s funny you ask this. I often think why doesn’t someone have a dedicated marine appliance store. Unfortunately I don’t know of one so you’re stuck talking to the manufacturers then ordering from a dealer. I put a dometic small unit in the cockpit and it’s well made albeit Chinese. I think norcold, dometic, vitrifigo, and isotherm are the known marine brands. If you have general appliance questions feel free to pm me as that’s my forte’

Want to replace the bose system in the cabin as I can not get it to work since we bought the boat in Aug. Has anyone replaced theirs if so with what

The Bose speakers will only work with the Acoustimass module behind the salon sofa. Check that first, make sure it is plugged in. If you want to replace the entire system then you can, but if you want to utilize the Bose speakers you will need to find what part is not functioning and replace that. Parts are cheap on eBay and the system sounds pretty good.

I've been told that as hot as it gets here that I should stay away from freezer on bottom models as those units have a hard time getting the cold air up into the refrigerator box. That cold air works better if it's allowed to fall naturally.

Hahaha! That’s funny stuff. The compartments are separate on all frost free models. The units rely on a damper and a fan to move the air up or down so that’s false.

The old manual defrost units only have a cooling plate between the 2 so it could have made since at some point.

Buy whatever suits you. Personally I like the refrigerator at the top as that is what we use the most and it’s at eye level

Has anyone ever had the carpet in the aft area get wet?
Right as I was leaving the boat I found the carpet on the floor area soaked.
It didn't seem that it was coming from the water heater, I removed the access cover and looked and felt in there and didn't see anything wet and the carpet between the heater and floor (ledge) wasn't wet.
The shower sump was working properly and dry all around it.
There was probably an inch of water in the bottom of the bilge under the cover beneath the couch.
I had filled the fresh water tank on Saturday morning but only about 3/4 full.

There are probably a bunch of possibilities but I would focus on either rain ingress, cockpit sink supply or drain connections, or the cockpit ice-maker (if you haven't converted it to a refrigerator). The connection behind the ice-maker is fairly easy to access and was responsible for wet carpet by the transom door in my case. Additionally rain can come in at the weeping hole at the base of the windshield on the port side and work its way back. Also I get an occasional "leak" at the arch/canvas but we have a camper set up. The last thing I can think of is that rain or a following sea can catch the aft carpet edge and the water in your bilge is from another cause and unrelated.

Just some thoughts but check the ice-maker....

Thanks James -
All good possibilities except, I'm in a covered slip (and didn't wash the boat this weekend) and have a fridge in place of an ice maker. Also, I boat on a lake and it was like glass this past weekend
I do appreciate the thought though

Fred,
Was the water supply to the former ice-maker terminated properly? I would also check the cockpit bar sink supply. Since you are in a covered slip, the source has to be higher up for the cockpit carpet to get wet and after that the water collects in the bilge. I would guess that it would be a leak in a pressurized water line? I don't think that the hot water tank or the fresh water tank would be the source for the wet cockpit carpet. Just some thoughts...

I appreciate the continued thoughts -
I didn't pull out the cockpit fridge and had kind of ruled that out because in a previous boat when I had a leak in the connection to the ice maker I had it also running out the cockpit from behind the cabinets along the port side.
I thought of a pressurized water line although when I run the fresh water pump they hold pressure and don't cycle like I would think they would if it's a leak.
The carpet was very wet all the way across the aft area from about 12-18" away from the salon step up (if that makes sense)
My current hypothesis is that it's from a leak in the a/c recirculating flow some how
The water that was in the bilge below this carpeted area was no where near the carpeted level, at least 12" below it
