The New England weather was starting to turn cold in late October. Time for the nearly-patentable “Sea Gull” winterization process.

It took 6 full days to complete, but there is a near zero chance that any of the boats systems will be damaged by freezing temps. Actually it took 7 days from start to finish, since we had to take a day off in the middle for some nasty weather.

The entire process burned 4,268 gallons of diesel, and the crew consumed 28 cups of coffee. But not one ounce of pink antifreeze was needed.

The secret to my special winterization process... boats don’t freeze in South Florida!

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Stay warm.

12k in fuel + whatever ? That's one reason I have a boat here and there. Just about time to head that way.

If he can afford an L650, I'm guessing $12000 in fuel is a drop in the hat. :)

And if ya ever need “eyes” on your boat.....I’m available to take a peak anytime in SOFLA :)

I did the same a few years ago except my meathod involved the use of a large truck! I was just there a couple of weeks ago and will probably return around Christmas....Im in North Miami.....where do you keep Sea Gull?

How does your insurance work in Florida. Do you need to report your winter home and do your premiums go up.
If you do not notify your insurance provider and there is a claim in Florida are you covered. I took my 21 foot trailer boat south and I needed to get insurance coverage in the new area.

Of course our insurer is fully aware of our cruising range and year-round use. The premiums take both into account, but we try to mitigate cost by staying north of the FL/GA border until after 11/1, and we make sure we are North again before 6/15.

From someone that does a pretty good number of winterizing's each year, in addition to his own (and family-members)... I like your method MUCH better!!! :)
