460 DA Owners Thread

Replacing Norcold fridge in 2001 460.

I know it has been discussed before just wanted to add to it .

This was a very straight forward job! Level of confidence needed - Two drinks!
Time spent>2hours
People needed to do > Could be done by yourself however best to have two adults.
Removable steps> Take cabin door off - Take doors to fridge cabinet off - Tape down to floor " if you have hard wood" either panting drop cloth or thick painting paper-Take screws off of flange of fridge-slide fridge out- Unplug 110 cord - unhook 12volt cord- Tape doors shut- Bend over all four corners of flange " very sharp" Duct tape all sharp edges of flange so not to get hung up on upholstery going out the cabin door way- I taped painting drop cloths on both sides of door way- remove fridge.

Instal> The new fridge is lighter and not as many sharp edges- I didn't tape off any - New fridge will go through cabin door way with no issues- Hook up 12 volt and 110- slide fridge in- instal old screws in flange " mine lined right up with old holes"- Take door panels from old fridge and install in new fridge " I had to trim the old to fit the new you can do this with a really sharp razor knife- Reinstall cabinet doors- Reinstall Cabin door.

Tools needed > Screw gun, Duct tape , Hammer, phillips screw driver , drop cloths, Wire cutters , wire crimpers, clear silicone for top door access panel , straight eded, razor knife, favorite beverage!

I plug in new fridge at home to both 12 volt and 110 prior to insure all was working ok " from my door to the dock is a four hour drive"

If you are going to do this job do your self a big favor and order all new wheels for the door tracks. Odds are the bottom wheels could be replaced or at least some and you only want to do this once!

Best of luck.
Jim

After spending 3 hours digging into our westerbeke generator issue here is an update. The 8.5 fuse on the side if the genny control panel kept blowing as soon as I turned on the switch in the cabin. We had a direct short. After isolating the gen from the cabin by disconnecting the harness. I traced out the wires on the switch and connected one at a time to see where the short was. It ended up to be a direct short within the temp. Sensor switch on the genny. Replaced the original 16 year old sensor with a new one and all back to normal. We are going to be buying the spare parts kit for the westerbeke generator which has all 3 sensors and an impeller

Hey gang....Hope you are ALL doing well!
Has anyone ordered the stainless steel 3/4" by 12' long rub rail insert piece? If so, part # and where you got it from please?

Winter layup is going well, getting all the little things taken care of that were put off during the summer.....almost getting bored because I don't have much to do.:) Added a new electronic piece recently so just waiting for the dash kit to be completed for final install. Sent the oils in to Blackstone labs for testing and they came back perfect! Hard to believe that engines with 1100 hours on them could come back with such a clean bill of health.,...but lucky me!!!

If you call your local sea ray dealer they will have them . They are the same for many boats. I just gave year and model and they sent them to me and they where the right ones. I thought I saved the part number but didn't.

Found it...Part# 1080100. Unbelievably my local Sea Ray dealer had a piece in stock and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for a 12' long piece of SS to be shipped. Out the door price was only $44.00

I plan on pulling my props to get them tuned on our new to us 01 460. Any tips on how to pull them. Thanks

I literally just pulled mine yesterday!
They were on their pretty good I might add. After attaching the prop puller and tightening, they just wouldn't budge a fraction of an inch. I tried using a propane torch to heat the hub a little bit and it still wouldn't budge. My mechanic said I needed to use a MAP torch which is about 10x hotter than propane. After a few minutes of heating around the hub then a few taps with a 3 lb sledge they both popped free.

Make sure that you leave one of the nuts on the shaft to keep it from popping all the way off and hitting the ground. They will be under some pressure if they are stuck on tight and when you hit the back side (of the prop puller, NOT the hub) they will pop pretty quick and hard. Without the nut on, you will not be able to stop it by hand.

Considering these have always been in freshwater, I was a bit surprised at how well they were stuck on. The 2 nuts came off with ease so I thought the prop would be no problem. Have patience. :)

'My mechanic said I needed to use a MAP torch which is about 10x hotter than propane.'

not quite....MAPP gas burns at around 5,300*F where as propane burns at around 3,450*F.....the extra 2,000*F was significant and made MAPP gas superior to propane but not 10X hotter...but you cannot buy MAPP gas any longer....they stopped making it in 2008...MAPP gas was replaced with MAP-pro gas which burns at around 3,600*F which is just slightly hotter than propane....

Thanks Cliff...I didn't even know what MAP gas was until my mechanic told me to go get it yesterday. After 20 minutes with a small green propane tank and it wouldn't budge he sent me off to get the yellow tank (Map). A few minutes with that and voila it was off.
Thanks for the correction/education. :)

That sounds great. Do you have specific details on the light? All the ones I found are smaller than the 6" OEM hardtop lights.
Sorry for the delay, the lights can be found easily using google. Type in TIC Marine tri color LED and they pop up right away. From the company site you can get the specs sheet right there and they even give you the part numbers to go directly to three different website to purchase.

The admiral wants a bigger swim platform. I don't think we need a hydraulic one. Does anyone have a bigger swim platform on their 460.
We have the TNT platform, but I will tell you that on our old 340, we had a new platform put on, it was from Swim Platforms Inc out of Arizona. They do hundreds of factory spec'd platfroms that looked awesome. They don't look like an add-on or crappy aftermarket Add-on. I'd work with them in a heartbeat and there website is filled with great info and pics for reference. They also work direct with the customer so you don't get nailed with the marina pricing...

We are dealing with swim platforms. Sending our swim platform to them as they do t have a mold of for the 460.

Just to be 100%.. You have a soft top nit a hard top . correct? The hard top down lights are bigger.

Looks like those are 3" in diameter. Mine are 6" in the hardtop.

Yes you are correct in the hard top they are 6''

Others have added multicolored lights to the existing fixtures and ran new wires and added a switch.

What I am in the process of doing is.. I bought from Lumitec marine lighting the multicolored white, red, blue, purple. I replaced all the lower cockpit ones and that took about 20 min to do . Very straight forward. For the four on the hard top.. I had a local plastic fab company cut me four 6 3/4 round blanks with a two inch hole in the middle. I then just snap in the lights from Lumitec , drilled four screw holes that will mount the new light face to the hard top and then for the chrome bezel I used heavy duty velcro to attache the bezel to the new light fixture.
I was waiting to post pictures after I completed the hard top.

I have not found a manufacture IMG_2159.jpg IMG_2584 (1).jpg IMG_2587.jpg that makes a multicolored 6" down light that could replace the ones we have in the hard tops.

One more thing .
Anyone wanting to purchase the blanks I had made can buy them from the manufacture that I had do them .
They will ship them to you.
Cost to have them cut was $178.00 they have a cad file for this now.

Good evening.....I am going to change my canvas on my 1999 460. The current canvas is nice and was extended from the factory original but it still does not allow us to use the back bench seat comfortably when the back piece is installed. Our guests (or us) have to slouch down in the seat so we are not resting our heads on the back glass.

The new extension will allow for it to be a "camper back" (?). A bit more vertical back glass and no slouching to sit in the back bench.

Has anyone had their canvas modified on this year's model that I could get some pictures of? I would like to see how your canvas fabricator created the side pieces as well as where they placed the support poles. I trust my canvas guy implicitly but would like to see other examples of 460's. If anyone has modified their canvas I would love to hear from you and see some pics if available.
Thanks
Bill

We had ours done but we have a hardtop...We absolutely love having one....We used it all the time... Had the pieces made so they All roll up instead of having to remove them all when we left our dock on a hot day... We also had screens built in to allow them all to stay down when we want less Wind/Air on a chilly day, or.... if its too buggy.... I came across this.. Maybe these pictures will help... scroll through all the pictures to see the rest....Hope this helps....
