Official 390 E.C. Thread

Have a major problem. I am down on the boat and was cleaning the engine room, i noticed my port raw water intake is leaking at the base of it. Does anyone know what parts are used for these? I looked at intake thru hulls however mine has a flange on the inside of the boat that the nut runs tight on. Any idea what this is for? Thanks.

Your strainer gaskets are probably shot. they are either cork or rubber, and you can't switch according to perko. yours should be cork, but it's worth checking to be sure. the gasket kit is part # 0493dp799m from perko. The strainers are size 6. When you rebuild them, be very gentle with the plastic cylinders, they'll be brittle from age. Also, when you tighten the assembly up, be careful to not overtighten the nuts or the rods will shear off and you'll either be making new ones or paying out the wazoo for factory ones.

He is talking about the seawater intake, not the sea strainer............

The seacock is a 2 part assembly and if it is leaking around the flange on the floor, it is likely t hat the boat will need to be hauled out of the water and , given the age of t he parts, I'd replace the thru hull fitting and have the new one bedded in with 3M 5200.

Here is an idea of how the assembly goes together:

Look for "sea flange valve" for the pars inisde the boat and "one piece intake strainer" for the part outside.

Is anyone interested in buying a 1990 39 express with low hours. Hrs are under 700. Its my boat gas powered. A lot of upgrades. inside and out. looking at $42 thousand.

I might be. Waiting for a deal to close on my end and I'll be ready to buy. I'm in metro Detroit.

Could I see some current pic's? And what's your location?

I'll be back up to the boat this weekend will take current pics. Boat is located in Lake Erie Marblehead, Ohio.
The fresh water tank has been repaired. laminate flooring in cabin and new carpeting. I built and installed the stainless steel trim tab as shown in this thread to keep the bow down when running. It has underwater lights green and white. A huge Polk Audio stereo system 4,000 wats. 10 6/5 s and 2 18 inch subs out back. with a Sony tuner Wi Fi and bluetooth.
All upholstery out back has been replaced. Will have pics after this weekend.

Ever have a chance to take pics?

I repaired my water tank with West Epoxy System. then coated the repair with truck bed protector.

Just a note regarding Gelcoat color on a 1988 390 EC. I called Sea Ray and they said their color was Arctic White and that the Cook Composites color code is white summer - 944W970

Had to get it because I ordered the new SwimPlatforms platform today. :) Figured I'd share the color data.

Also confirmed (as stated here previously) from Sea Ray that the 390 EC line never had core in the bottom or hull sides. The only coring was in the deck.

  1. We are going to be refitting our canvas top over the winter this year and I need some help from the 390 EC owners crew. I want to change the front canvas so that I have an isenglass windshield that comes straight up from the glass and then joins the canvas going back to the radar arch. Does anyone have detailed pictures of a similar set up and in particular the supports under the canvas? I am going to have to rework or replace my canvas supports to do this and looking at one that is already done would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

If you currently have the two bow setup that was factory original you can probably do the same thing I did to my 420 sundancer. (by the way I owned a 390 ec for ten years so I am very familiar with your boat)

If you slide the mounting shoes forward that are on top of the windshield frame, or ad new ones in the correct spot you can have the original bows move up and forward to match the angle of the windshield to were you want it.

then you run the canvas back to the top of radar arch instead of the rear bow, which now becomes the center bow support.

part 6 of my journey. (old footage)

I dont have Al's funds or skill-sets but I do the best I can only sharing a name.

Dang I watched the vids. Good stuff! You must have had some funds for sure! I saw your boast in the yard on south river in spring as you were prepping. Never caught you there or I would have stopped to introduce myself

Over the last couple of weeks of monsoon fall rains here in MI I have noticed a small wet spot in the ceiling of the forward berth. It looks like the area is right below the fore deck rail mounting positions. This means I need to remove and rebed the rails this winter. Has anyone had luck with removing the headliner to do this without wrecking the headliner? I really do not want to replace the headliner this year as we are already having all canvas and vinyl (exterior) replaced this winter and a new headliner is not in the budget.

be sure not to over torque the hardware on the rails. I plan to do this at some point next year.

I recommend 4000UV to bed the rails and about 10-12 ft lbs. too often I see people hammer them down as hard as they can with 5200.

Im up on the salt river this year. That marina sucked and it was really expensive. I summer at Michigan Marine Salvage though right up the river.
