We have an “L” shaped built in sofa that has a cushion that is 5 feet long by 30 inches deep in the long section and a two piece section in the short part. The short part is made of one 3 feet and one 2 foot piece both 30 inches deep. The backs are removable cushion. We would like to keep the system as we have it as there is storage under it. We also have a solid non movable 3 foot wide helm seat with a back.

We got a price to cover all with fake leather and new foam for $5,500.
Questions:
Has any done their boat in fake leather?
If yes how has it held up?
Would fabric be better than fake leather?
Has anyone taken out the built in sofa and replaced it with a store model designed with built in storage? If yes where did you buy it?

You are always better off staying with the OEM layout for resale value. The fake leather if good quality would be fine and add an updated look. Lower quality will only stretch in one direction and be more difficult to work with for the upholsterer. $5,500 sounds quite high including material. I bought a 27 yard roll of good quality tan ultra leather for $550 and am going to pay my upholstery person about an additional $1,800 to do a dinette similar to yours as well as 2 bucks in the second state room. Total about $2,500.

Could you give me the name of the shop please?

I had to replace the vinyl only on my couch, for the flat part. It matched the top portion. It was $650 for vinyl only. Couch was over 7 feet long.

Update
They missed foam for the cushions and added 1K so price is 6,500. That is more than 10% of the value of the boat. Big items are labour 27 hr at $95/hr = 2,600 Fabric 18.5 yds at $50/yd = 1,100 The rest is foamand shop related and trim items.
Think I will look for some one else.
Question
Is $95 an hour correct for shop rate for fabric shop. They have a real shop with lots of work space.

$95 is a joke. Should be less than $50. Fabric half the price. Look around some more.
