460 DA Owners Thread

The only access i know of is behind the sofa, not a lot of room. I replaced all the fittings and added a drain. Found the easiest way was to take off the sofa back
Although I cannot confirm this, the drawings show a hatch in the mid cabin. I don’t have a hatch so I am assuming it’s under the carpet. When I replace the flooring I will post it but I’m just not sure if it’s actually there.
I saw the same but could not find the hatch. Pulling carpet out so will also keep everyone in loop.. thanks

You can see the back here. I need the intake hose where water enters the tank. I can follow the line from behind the fridge to about in front of the stairs. Can't tell where it attaches to the tank but that seems to be where my leak is upon filling up the fresh water tank. It the drams to the access you mentioning.

I know the drawing show a hatch, but I have probed the carpet with a pick, took the back of the sofa stuck my head down there, could see the hose and could not see breaks in the floor that indicate a hatch. I would think you would have to pull the carpet and may have to cut one

My friend just swapped out all of the cockpit lights in his 2004 420. He used the tri color LED from ITC marine. They are the same sized as the factory lights which is nice because it covers all the holes, no fade marks, etc. They also work off existing dash switch and rotate from either color of blue, red, white by just tapping your switch on off. I was surprised. I just ordered a bunch of them to put in my 460. Heads up, cheaper on Overtons site, than on Amazon for same light.
That sounds great. Do you have specific details on the light? All the ones I found are smaller than the 6" OEM hardtop lights.

Hey dougvol, have you removed the carpet in your mid-berth or rear stateroom? If you do, let us know if there is indeed a hatch there, please. Thank you!

I would like to know as well if you have found a lED multicolored that will cover the dimensions on the 460 hard top. On the 420 hard top the light dimensions are the same as the cockpit hole 2inch so it is a easy swap out... not so easy on the 460.

My plan for our 460 is this .
I have purchased from Lumitec 4> White, Red, Blue, Purple led lights that will go in the cockpit from lumitec with brushed silver bezel and 4> White, red, blue, purple led lights that will go in the hard top. The 4 for the hard top are all white. All 8 lights fill a 2inch hole. that is a no brainer for the 4 in the lower cockpit however for the hard top another story.
My plan is to use the existing lights in the hard top.. I will gut the lights that are in the fixtures now and then with a 2inch hole saw .. center cut a hole in the existing lens then instal the new flush mount... the new ones outside diameter covers 3inch. This should give a clean aftermarket but at the same time stock look.

All lights work with the existing wires and switches.

When I have it completed I will post pics.

This has been discussed on the 460 thread and other parts of the form and there are less
expensive ways to go however for me this is going to give the best look I could come up with for a 4 multi colored light.

All eight lights cost me $800.00 they have 2 year warranty 20w. Lumitec sku#113128 Mirage Flush mount is the model .

I've replaced all the carpet and found no hatch as depicted. I'm sure if one had been there I would have opened it.

Cooling system / Cleaning - flushing -changing antifreeze! 600 hours Maintenance.

Hi all,
I will also post this in the "General Maintenance section" however wanted to post hear for all the 460 experts to lend some advice and tips. Also I did search the forms but did not find anything on this.

Because of the location of the lake I am on it makes it hard to get service technicians that are qualified to do work or it cost a arm and leg to get them to come so most owners just learn how to do it ourselves. I have had many boats but this is my first diesels and learning as I go.
This form has been great!

I have a 2001 460 with Cummings Diamond Performance B series sea water aftercooled coupled to ZF transmissions.

Boat has been in fresh water all its life " Lake Powell Utah".

This coming week I will be doing Oil , Zincs, fuel Service on both engines , Transmissions and Gen.

I am wanting to change the coolant as I do not know if it has ever been done. Looks pretty straight forward from the maintenance manual.

My question is...
What has been your experience doing this?
Pit falls I should know of?
Any tricks of the trade you have learned?
What type of coolant do you recommend?
Tricks on bleeding air from the system or things I should be aware of?
Should I start with beer or mixed drink?

Any help or advice you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

The admiral wants a bigger swim platform. I don't think we need a hydraulic one. Does anyone have a bigger swim platform on their 460.

Did mine last spring. I used the Cummins ES Complete. No real tricks other than the re-fill. Not much room between the cap and the deck. I used a pump for the job. You could probably use a hose and funnel and gravity feed. For bleeding just run it at operating temp and check level after.

Joint custody

The physical act of changing it is not a big deal. Personally I would also do thermostats and clean the after poker and heat exchangers at the same time. I know you said you have b series but you actually have c series engines just so you know. You will need about 15 gallons and I also use the fleet guard blue es as recommended by Cummins. You will also need a new filter without any sca’s from fleet guard for each engine and a strap wrench to remove the filter. I used a funnel with some clear tubing to refill mine and I drained about 6 gallons from each engine.

Agree. I might add that the coolant drain is on the bottom of the oil cooler (you probably knew that), I also got about 7 gallons out, although the spec capacity for the engine, hoses and heat exchanger is 31 qts. If your coolant side hoses are original, this is the time to change them. Hoses for coolant side will run about $100 ea engine not including the vent hoses.
The tip to change the T-stats is a good one, there are 2 each engine, side by side under the same housing. If you do go with the t-stats, buy them using your serial number, they could be 160 or 180 degree. Good luck.

It's about 5 feet but I can get and send actual measurements when I go to the boat later.

The lights in the saloon? They have spring clips holding them up. Gently pry down the edges and reach in to depress the springs.
