Kohler 7.3E had issues starting, found the battery to be basically dead. Jumped the battery and the genny fires right up. I check to see if the battery is being charged by the genny and Im getting all kinds of crazy readings on the volt meter. Im assuming the battery is beyond dead and hence the weird readings. Then I see there's a breaker on the DC panel marked battery charger??? And there's a fuse on the genny control panel marked battery charger???? and the battery charger is on and charging the other batteries...but it's only running cause the genny is on???? Don't I only have 1 battery charger? what are the other breakers/fuses for??

Is it possible you have a battery charger powered by shore power or generator and another charger on the generator for just its battery?

Some info if you don't have your books.

Generators do put out A DC voltage to charge a battery that's used to start the generator like like a car has a alternator. And most larger boats should have a house battery charger or called an "AC Converter" to charge all the batteries when on shore power or when the generator is running.

Do check to make sure all your generator fuses are in good shape.
