460 DA Owners Thread

Or as I mentioned before, replace the existing bulbs with white LED's and add colored festoon bulbs in separate holders into the fixtures, they are large enough to accommodate. Just run a separate 12V supply to the colored bulbs so you have a choice of brilliant white or color. That way you don't have to replace those nice hardtop fixtures. It works well. Got everything from Super Bright LED. Don't forget, heat is not an issue with LED as it is with halogen.

Ok I removed old r80 today and pulled old radar wire out and ran new wires for radar. Old open array radar removed and new bracket installed to mount new Garmin 24" dome to. Dome install in am and hopefully the 10" and 8" screens by lunch. Has anyone connected there Cummins engines into the navigation screens. Our boat is an 01 460.
If so what do i need to do this

Thanks john

John,

Your engines are likely mechanical and will not directly connect to a new N2K display. Sbmar.com has a system where you can connect the engine sender inputs to there unit and it will act as a gateway and convert those inputs to N2K for connection to your displays. There are likely other options I am unaware of.

Hi guys,
The option I just ordered and started installing came from www.yachtd.com. It is a gateway connector that will send the analog information from the EDC to your MFD. My engines are 1999 Volvo Penta Tamd 73-P. I have been working with the owner for the past couple days getting a couple of the protocols correct but after we figured it out the data we get is very nice. He has gateways that connect via N2K or Raymarine Seatalk. He also has gateways for newer engines as well.
The engine gateways only cost $249.00 each.

Just thought I would share.
Have a great weekend.
Wolf.

Almost there. 7610 and 7608 installed and working. 24 radar installed and working. Fusion stereo integrated through harming system. Wireless network up and running so I can control all Garmin systems from my Samsung phone or the iPad. Transducer will be installed in November when we pull the boat for the winter. Going to install camera in the engine room and possibly another camera somewhere at the aft . Have to start working on the engine data connection before we pull it from the water.

Ok Guys... Hopefully this will make someone happy.

I decided to replace my 1 year old eisenglass with Strataglass so I have my 1 year old stuff now that may be of use to one of you. I kept the little slim piece that goes into the track, but other than that it is all there. It is black Sunbrella and is in great shape other then it is regular clear poly instead of Strataglass. Shoot me an offer if you want.

Josh

Tv installed. Have to run electric and cable today.

Last couple trips out could not get on plane. Dug into it today tabs not working. Fluid looks full. All I get is a click when the admiral holds the buttons down on the helm. I am thinking motor went. Any other suggestions?

I’m not a ton of help as to why the tabs are not working but it’s concerning you need tabs to get on plane. What’s your wot rpm?

Have not pushed it to WOT. Still getting used to her. Going out again Tuesday afternoon. Will see if I can get up on plane with increasing rpmS. Josh what rpm's do you usually get up on plane
Thanks John

not sure exactly what the rpms are when I get on plane but your wot should be 2650 and your crusing rpm 2200. I cruise at 18knts and I can hit a wot of 2700rpms but I had to have 2.5” of pitch removed from my props. I can stay on plane down to about 12 knots but I’m not sure what rpms that is.

Here is what we need to help you. 1. Make sure your engines are up to temp, should be 160*. 2. Bring it up to wot and record the rpms on both engines. 3. While the boat is working to come up on plane take notice of the exhaust, is it black, white, and from what engine. 3. Pay close attention to your engine temps, they should not go above 165*.

My not-so-rookie guess is simply you are overpropped. Most of the 460’s Sea Ray sold are over propped. Tabs are nice and I use them, but you should plane easily without them. How are you lurking your new ride? Congrats again!

Thanks Josh. So far we love her. We added tv to cockpit. Upgraded the navigation is a work in progress still have to do the autopilot.. but so far we are really enjoying her.
Thanks for the help. Will get back to you Tuesday.

We have our 01 460 just over a month. I topped off both tanks when we picked her up. The gauges both read less then a 1/4 . The boat was not i. The water this season except for owner moving it to the broker and then for our sea trial each tank took 100 gallons when we filled her so I assume gauges were sticking. We put just over 15 hours on her and ran genny for about 20 hours.. both gauges are at 1/2 now. Is that possible?. I figurefuel burn at20 gph.so I should have less than that correct ?

I have a 2002 460. When I fill my fresh water tank I get a high water alarm from the pump under the aft sofa. Slow leak but I am pretty confident coming from tank. ( hole, overflow, clamp, etc) Anyone know how to access the fresh water tank?

After troubleshooting Bennett trim pump adding up motor was shot. Change the entire unit and all working again. Going try to rebuild old one as a spare.

The only access i know of is behind the sofa, not a lot of room. I replaced all the fittings and added a drain. Found the easiest way was to take off the sofa back

Although I cannot confirm this, the drawings show a hatch in the mid cabin. I don’t have a hatch so I am assuming it’s under the carpet. When I replace the flooring I will post it but I’m just not sure if it’s actually there.

Interested in how you rewired them. I've looked at replacing with LED fixtures that have both white and blue but that's expensive. And the two halogen bulbs in each are so bright. Would love to just replace the bulbs with LED bulbs (like I did in the saloon) and make one blue. Is that what you did?
My friend just swapped out all of the cockpit lights in his 2004 420. He used the tri color LED from ITC marine. They are the same sized as the factory lights which is nice because it covers all the holes, no fade marks, etc. They also work off existing dash switch and rotate from either color of blue, red, white by just tapping your switch on off. I was surprised. I just ordered a bunch of them to put in my 460. Heads up, cheaper on Overtons site, than on Amazon for same light.

That does seem a little off. My 460 for example is drastically different that my old 340. The 460 upon a normal fill up reads full on both gauges, yet it seems by backing the boat away from the fuel dock it goes down immediately. I spent extra time on each fill up after we got the boat so see exactly how much we could get in based on the gauges. I learned that this boat, even filled as slow as possible, doesn't take nearly what she should when she is "empty" or close to it. At almost empty on both gauges, I still have 30-35 gallons in each tank. Not sure if that is common or not, but this boat stays at "half" for a long time and goes down slowly from there.
