Hi all, I have a Mercury dink that is coughing up blood, it's time to replace it. I prefer to stay with 9.5 length, any more than than hangs over the swim platform. I am in North Florida, boat is stored in a covered slip, so is Hypalon that big of a deal, considering the dink will mostly be in the shade? Anything else I need to consider? Thanks!

Well since nobody else has chimed in I'll give you my two cents - yes, go with Hypalon. I think your salt water is also rather harsh on PVC over the long term. That combined with more intense sun when it is out will contribute to quicker breakdown. Of course you could always get yourself a low end PVC and see how long it lasts? Perhaps used?

The Water Tenders are nice (molded plastic) stable dinks, but will cover up your platform, and entry. I use one on the 43 Portofino, which has a much larger platform, so it rides nice there.

I have a Mercury RRIB, second one in 5 years. It’s PVC, the first RIB was replaced under warranty because the rear tubes leaked at the seam on both side. After MANY phones calls and one visit to drop off and pickup, they replaced it. Apparently, they wanted to try to fix it first. The repair facility is 150 miles (one way) away! Be careful, look for a repair facility first. I had to drive 300 miles, wait 3 weeks only to have it leak again, then wait another 4 weeks to get it replaced. Look into Westmarine, they have very similar RIBs around the same price. But, you can bring it to any Westmarine for repair, they will ship it. The next RIB I buy will be from Westmarine for that reason. Also, PVC or Hypalon will not last if you keep inflated beyond “0” psi. With excessive heat air expands. If you keep inflated at 2psi or more the air will expand and blow out the seams. Both PVC and Hypalon seams are welded the same according to Mercury Marine. The fabric is better but the seams are the same. My RIB is also covered, that will protect the fabric.

Good luck with your search!

Liking it so far. Pretty flat in the back. Have a little Honda 2.3 but I am going to pick up a Yammy 6 for it.
