Hello all,

Does anyone know if the bow eyes of this boat can hold the weight? I will be removing from a trailer so the stern will already be on a firm support, I want to lift the bow to be able to pull out the trailer.

Thanks

Ok, so by your response the eye is not strong enough, correct? I am just trying to avoid doing the two jack method after each cross bar on the trailer

I'm confused on what you're trying to do.

No....the eye at the bow is not to be used for lifting the boat. You can use it to winch the boat onto the trailer.

This is a restoration project. I am renting a trailer to transport to my workshop, unload and get to work. The boat has always been on a lift, no trailer was needed by the previous owner.

Thanks for the input.

In my '05 280DA Owners Manual it says 'bow and stern eyes can be for short term lifting like for maintenance'. Might not be the case for the OP though.

Hello all,

Thanks for your posts and I wanted to give an update. I did not lift the boat from the eyes given the feedback I received. I completed the removal of the boat from the trailer by the tedious and slow process of 2 jacks and moving the trailer about 20" at a time through 7 cross members. The boat is now being supported by the keel in 3 places alone with 2 stern supports, 2 mid-ship supports and 2 mid-bow supports. It is stable now and ready for the restoration to begin. I will not be restoring to original, as I do not want to give that much time and effort. I need to get her running and all mechanicals / gauges working first and then to the exterior, gel coat and seating as that is all torn and trashed. Then, we can start to use it while I slowly see how much I want to do in the cabin.
