I have dinged my props and they need to be sent to the shop for a retune. I'm doing all the work except or the retune.

The Boss is worried over the cost. Can anyone give me a figure that might be close? They are 4 blade bronze if that helps.

My props run about $350-$450 to get tuned & balanced every other year.

Yep. 450.00 per prop here in Texas.

Smaller props are a lot easier and faster to true so on a 300WE with small blocks, a 14"-16" diameter wheel is probably going to be around $500 for the pair. Larger props like Josh's 24" wheels take a lot of banging to true so $750-$1000 depending upon how bad they are.

On my delivery cruise last year I learned firsthand what it costs to repair props after I ran aground in one of those New Jersey inlets. The 24" 4-bladed nybral props had light damage only, cost about $875 for the pair.

I like this. My wife is the socalled boss too. I affectionately call her the finance minister of the family. Anything boat related is usually a big no no if not discussed.

Well just an update....

My props are 23x 26 I have 2 sets. Significant adjustment needed as I had one with a bent blade from a log strike and I needed to take pitch out of both to get my RPM's in line... $2750 for the 4...

How does she feel about the cost of a divorce? Just curious....

You made me go look. The last time I messed up a prop was 2008. 9 years without banging one up is pretty good.

In '09, I paid $330 to have 2 BIII props repaired. They weren't that bad, so YMMV.

I'm on #2 for almost 23 years. During the few years I was on #1 I was still too young and stupid to know that:
1. The wife is always right.
2. Happy wife, Happy life.
3. Always apologize even when I have no clue why?
4. Always stick to the rule of thirds when it comes to upgrades, repairs, modifications to toys (boats and cars) or past times. Whatever the cost, tell her it was 1/3 of the price.
5. While men are generally physically stronger we are no match for women so we are in fact "the weaker sex".
6. Nobody in the house cares if I'm pi$$ed off or in a miserable mood, but if the wife is having a tough day we all suffer so that should be avoided at all costs.

Now some who read the above might think me less of a man, but while that may well be true, my cowardly tired old a$$ is happily enjoying life with my 410 Sundancer she felt we needed, fishing on the 22' Eastern, running around the bay in the 18' Maxum I "got for the kids", fair weather drives in my 1968 GTO that I fully restored years ago and C6 Corvette that I bought brand new, while she is currently seriously suggesting that it may be time for me to go order my C7 Corvette. Her only dilemma with ordering the next new one is that we only have a two car garage and we have to figure where we'll fit the next toy.

Wow....I really feel for you having to make all of those hard decisions. ;)

I am on #3....and the last. And she has been with me the longest so she wins. And how can you not love a women that comes home and says, "....lets go buy a Porsche." "Let's go to the Drag Races this weekend." "Lets go look at bigger boats" All that and she makes more than I do.

NorCal & JVM you've got it real tough, my sympathies! ;)

I'm not sure how you stay sane! :D

Will you kindly share your collective wisdom with my First Mate?

And thanks for starting this thread....had one new prop put on at purchase, but didn't see either myself so know I need to check them on this haul-out.
