Hi all, I'm a long time boater that had gotten out of it after leaving college. Now that I can afford it on my own I'm looking to get back into boating. Growing up we had a 1984 23' sea ray and a 1988 28' Carver Mariner. We boated all over the Sassafras River and the ches bay. I'm looking at mid/late 90s sundancers between 31-37' for my own family now. I'm in North Alabama and am trying to figure out what the actual selling prices for these size boats has been. I see a lot of variation in asking price with similar features/years/engine hours. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm loving my 98 290 DA.

It's a great all around boat and when comparing with other sized boats it lives larger do to its layout.

A great example with twins and a generator can run mid to high 30's.

The one I purchased will be up there once all the mechanical work is complete.

Pictures are in the links below.

Enjoy the search..... what is your price point?

Between 95 and 99 and 31' and 37' I suspect it would not be unusual to see $100k or more variation in list prices. It's kind of like asking "in the USA what is the average selling price of a home between 2,500 and 3,000 square feet". There are so many variables. Not the least of which is location (fresh water vs salt).

Boat trader is a great place to start. As are NADA guides. Best of luck in your search. I'd suggest you get on a few of these boats ASAP. The size difference between a 31' and a 37' can be quite substantial. As can be the price point...

Thanks Little Ducky, I like the deck layout in your 290 da. Looks like you've done a bunch of updating/repair on her! I'm looking to top out in the very low 40s depending on location and would really prefer as wide of a beam as I can get. Still trying to figure out all these beam changes since the mid/late 80s?! Obviously if I have to have it shipped (got a quote of $2,400 to ship a 33' sundancer from Jackson MS to Rogersville, AL) I'll have to go lower than the low 40s to account for shipping.

Thanks Stee6043. Yeah, I understand the variations, I'm just trying to get an idea on a couple data points in between there. For example... 4 selling prices for a 96 370 DA are xx, xx, xx, xx.... 3 selling prices for a 98 330 are xx,xx,xx... etc. Just so I can have a general range. That information may not even be out there, I don't know. I've been looking all over yachtworld, boats.com, craigslist.. it's kind of addicting!

My wife has a term for looking at boat ads when I have no intention buy buying another boat ..."boat porn".

I don't know what value data points for asking prices on used boat is when boats of that age fluctuate all over the map because of condition. You can easily find values varying 50% or more just based on condition only.

You have to start somewhere, so I'd begin looking at boats priced at around $50K if you are a decent negotiator because on the average sellers end up netting about 90% of their listing prices for used boats. ANother factor to keep in mind is that a 20 year old boat is going to have some deferred maintenance required to make her "right" again. You can determine how much that cost is by having both mechanical and hull surveys done before you close the deal.......We can only hold your hand as you weep after you pay $43K for a boat only to find that she needs $6500 worth of exhaust castings and a valve job a few weeks later.

Lol, exactly on the boat porn. That is great info on the general 90% net, thank you. I'm familiar with the maintenance and definitely plan on getting both types of surveys done.
