Irma is making me nervous

I can't stress enough to BE careful around downed wires. You die from either contact or getting close which comes in the form of step potential. The voltage between your feet at a normal step spacing at 7200 volts WILL kill you within a few feet of a live down wire. Also it is near impossible to see a downed conductor in a mess of down trees..

If you find your self sneaking up on a downed conductor take SMALL steps and shuffle your feet until you are clear.

The utilities will be throwing lots of feeders in for test. Consider every down conductor as energized.

Bill Weir on CNN is driving around Key West over live conductors saying he hears them buzzing... What an idiot...

Still praying for you all! Good Luck.

ididntdoit, Haulover Marine Center is in great shape. I got a Facebook post and video from them and all their boats are fine! I also got an email from my new marina and while the marina and a few boats suffered a little damage, my boat had no damage at all!! 3 Hurricanes in the last year, and Sol Mates is still unharmed.
Great News! Thanks Richie

We made it through! Boat was fine. Canvas intact, no scrapes or dock rash. Very blessed and lucky to have dodged a direct hit.

The boat up against the rail let loose and wound up there this morning. Just a few hours earlier you can see the basin was empty, the water sucked out by Irma. Surreal to see a boat sitting there.

More than likely going boating Wednesday. I'll post pics.

Copy that. I think CNN is a solid news outlet but their hurricane coverage in general has been silly.

I'm on the east coast and we got battered pretty good so I can't imagine what it was like in the Keys or Naples. I lost a couple hundred shingles and it took out my fence. The 4x4 post are snapped off at the ground. I just bought my boat a month and a half ago and during the time it took for Irma to pass I was freaking out about something happening to the boat. I got very lucky and there wasn't even a scratch on it. We went without power for about 36 hours and without water for about 22 hours, but all my friends and family were safe. If anyone needs me to check out a property or boat on the east coast of central Florida let me know. I hope everyone did as well as we did!

For those that would like me to have a look at their boats or property please email me at jetcap@embarqmail.com The pm info seems to not be there.

Thanks for the offer Mike! Just bought my place in Feb/17 as a vacation property to get away from the winter cold. Not sure how the condo complex fared, especially when it comes to water (all units are main floor). I'll email the details.

Of the properties I've checked, all fared well! No damage or flooding just palm fronds etc. down. Power is for the most, part still not on. That should be fixed soon. We got quite lucky in Cape Coral!

I've been following the updates on St. Martin and the outlook is really bleak. I feel so terrible for the residents as it's sounding like most cruise ships will be diverting from there for several months at the very least. Some people have lost everything they own and because many supported the tourism industry, with many of the hotels destroyed, they've also lost their jobs. It's such a tragic situation.
