Watched eclipse on the boat

Took my son and his buddies out on the water to watch the eclipse. Actually saw some stars with 97% obstruction of the sun. Cooled things off for an hour or so.​
 
Watched from boat as well. 2 min and 36 seconds of Totality. the last 2 min before and the main event where awesome the rest was ok.

I agree it was underwhelming as well. But the kids got excused absences from high school, and it allowed me to extend the lake weekend for another day. So that was great!
Look how still the water is, it calmed down just like it usually does at dusk and stayed like glass the rest of the afternoon.
 
The bugs came out and crickets on the banks, was neat for sure.
 
So since the moon controls the tides did the eclipse have any effect on the tides? Just curious.
 
the moon did not do anything different then normal..... its just timing that the moons orbit was on the closer to us side (so its bigger and can cover up the sun) vs when its on the normal side of its orbit an is not big enough.
